10/11 meters / Bootleggers with illegal cb radios
« on: January 31, 2024, 2257 UTC »
I have been hearing them on 28.305 Mhz - but it doesn't sound like single side splatter.
The signals are about 40 kc's wide and appears to be coming out of Texas.
Dumb rednecks - truck drivers - that have their Galaxies tuned as far sound into the ham bands as they will go.

10/11 meters / Texas Freebanders on 28.305 MHz SSB

It sounds like FM, but they are using their class C amplifiers and their signals are 40 kcs wide.

Truckers talking like idiots, and no one has an amateur radio License.

I reminded them twice that 28 MHz is an amateur radio frequencies and requires a license.

Those people are just as racist as the worlds biggest jammer.
Maybe they ought to have their Black Panther Party net at a time different then 9 PM west coast time.
Might I suggest they have it at 3 am - then no one would hear them talk.

Amateur Radio / Snotty Hams
« on: November 04, 2022, 2107 UTC »
I have been licensed since 2011 - have been a Amateur Extra Class ham - all but 3 months of that period of time.
Was talking the other day on QRZdotcom and someone told me that I had no right to say anything - that I did not know anything, since I have only been licensed for 11 1/2 years.
I have been shortwave / amateur radio listening since about 1969 / 70

They know nothing about my educational background or what I even did for a living for 40 years.

I was just wondering if any of you had a similar event happen to you like that?

ps - I have never been treated that way on this chat forum!

I don't know about you, but where I live they ran out of channels..

With all the low power translators, there is sometimes as many as 3 stations on the same channel.

I'm using stacked Winegard 8200u with a Channel Master CM 7777 pre amplifier,  with a Antennas Direct XG 91 with another Channel Master CM 7777 pre amp and a antenna switch, rotor, 30' tower, 20' mast.

I view the Pittsburgh,  Altoona / Johnstown market..

I'm not getting anything anymore out of Cleveland OH, Youngstown OH, Morgantown WV, Wheeling, Clarksburg WV.

10/11 meters / 10 - 10 International Club
« on: August 09, 2020, 1719 UTC »
From time to time I hear a 10 - 10 contest on 10 meters ssb phone.

In the old days, 10 - 10 club was free, now they charge a fee to join.

Sometimes just for the fun of it, I go ahead and give them my zip code as my 10 - 10 number.

Its comical because they just don't get it.  Some people will come right back to me and say - that isn't your number.  I'm like - who cares?

I hear people on the cb radio using numbers, and I wonder are those numbers self assigned or is there some type of club that they join that assigns them their number..
