Posting this for my sibling.  I do have an audio recording, and we're still getting it right now:

Quote
From my radio in the Mojave Desert, I noticed something unusual last night that I heard on 590KHz.  It was a whining, grinding-like noise.  I checked again in the morning and it showed up another receiver on the following frequencies (all in KHz): 590, 620, 690, 870-990, 1110, and 1610.  It doesn't seem to be affecting local stations all that much except the occasional noise on KWDJ at 1360 KHz.

I have made a recording of the audio log.  It seems to be appearing on other receivers too.

ETA: Here's the clip. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ih5djp2bq2gyqb/0.590_2018-04-01_00-23-43.wav?dl=0

Shortwave Broadcast / UNID Italian 9435 kHz 1145-0130 UTC
« on: November 22, 2017, 1246 UTC »
Times listed are the times we were able to pick it up, not necessarily the times of the broadcast.  It seems to have faded with the oncoming sunrise.

An interesting UNID, because there are no stations broadcasting at that time with that language that I can find, but it had a call sign and a female voice, with light pop music bordering on soft jazz.  Call sign was illegible, though, due to some QRM at that second.  Reception was middling-to excellent, though hanging around S3-S5 the entire broadcast.

Received with varying levels of loundess on my Realistic, Pashpaw, my sibling, caught it on a constant but quiet level with their SDR, in South-Central CA.

I'm really posting this because I have no idea, but I want to know.

The really weird thing is, in trying to pin down a location, I couldn't.  There's not many nodes on GT nowadays, but I tried various ones including Korea, Canada, Romania, France, Minnesota, and Arizona, but no extra CA nodes since there are none active right now.  I couldn't find it elsewhere, and I like to think I covered most of the globe with that selection.

EDIT: That's 1130-1230 UTC.  I'd just woke up when I posted this, and hopped on shortwaves first thing.  I'm apparently no good DXing without coffee.

Caught RTN at 7925 kHz, 0340, duringthe middle and end of Talk Talk's It's My Life, followed by a female callsign identifying as Radio True North.  Faint, but getting stronger, here as the sunset goes.

S4-5 right now.  Nice to hear from you!

Carrier originally heard long before proper signal came in. :)

Around 0345, heard The Voice, Moody Blues

0350, Face to Face, Pete Towsend

0355, Numbers and Computer World, Kraftwerk, Minmax version?  Signal now around S7

0402 Moved to 6930 khz

Catching what sounds like a loud, hammering noise.  Very strong, I've been catching this a lot recently.  Any idea what it is?

Spy Numbers / HM01 @ 11530 kHz, 2305 UTC
« on: February 20, 2013, 2314 UTC »
Picking up V2A on 11530 kHz from 2305 til now.  Sounds like its being jammed, or data, mixed in with voice?  No ability to record at the moment.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Radio True North 4075 kHz 0500 UTC
« on: January 17, 2013, 0513 UTC »
Picking up RTN on 4075 kHz, around S4 or S5, with lots of QRM.  Currently ongoing.  Playing oldies music, sounds like 60's.  Picking up on Token's GT node.

0514- Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone

Picked up an UNID as of yet pirate.  Talk about Simple Minds in the background, two males talking.

ETA: Just after post, started playing Blue Monday by New Order, at 0327 UTC.

Got a faint catch in Southern CA.  Audioslave according to ID, but can't make out or didn't say a station ID.  ID was male voice, seemed American with a southern or midwestern accent.  Broadcast seems to have vanished after I typed that sentence and ID, nothing more on waterfall.

Getting RTN at 6.940 mHz, 0300 UTC and still going.  Got Praise You, another couple of songs I can't ID, mostly doing dance music, and an ID at 0322.

ETA: He's currently relaying Radio Transamerica.

11
UNID at 6.940 MHz, playing eurodance, Everybody Dance Now.

ETA: Call at 0425.  Radio True North, pretty good quality, S5, but fading.

12
Got ID for Blue Ocean radio @ 0430 UTC.   Okay quality.  6.940 MHz.

Have a hamster on 6.937, I think, so voice interfering with broadcast.

13
Caught RTN on 6.935 mHz at 0445 UTC.  Still going on as I post this.

Playing Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. :)

14
Got RTN relaying for Cool AM at 6.945 mhZ at 0445 UTC.  Good show :) Over at 0500.

Shortwave Broadcast / 14.080 mHz @ 0350 - Polyphonic data?
« on: June 20, 2012, 0359 UTC »
Not so sure if oddity or unknown data type to me.  Detuned tones, over multiple aural frequencies.  Will post a video shortly.

ETA: Video.  Sort of quieter than I liked, but here you go:
