Shortwave Broadcast / WWRB spur? 5075 AM 2315 UTC 5 Jun 2021
« on: June 05, 2021, 2351 UTC »
Heard soft music, like Simon and Garfunkle Lite, then at bottom of hour switched to talk (phone-in?).

Frequency varies from 5075.18 @ tune-in to 5075.26 currently (2347utc).

Lang is English, but the modulation is very up and down, so hard to tell what's being discussed. Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in Shortwave.

Best heard on a DKAZ antenna, oriented N-S.

« on: March 09, 2021, 1518 UTC »
Will there be support for IQ recordings made from the Airspy HF+ Discovery?

Shortwave Broadcast / 5025 R. Rebelde off air?
« on: January 28, 2021, 1442 UTC »
Not seeing anything on 5025 kHz. Usually a pretty decent signal here, especially on the south DKAZ. This morning, nothing. Nothing seen on the Key West KiwiSDR either.

Kind of unusual for them to be off.

HF Mystery Signals / Possible Ionosonde?
« on: December 02, 2020, 0142 UTC »
2 Dec 2020, @ 0105 UTC tune/in.

I'm hearing / seeing a signal that is sweeping the HF bands from 2025.5 kHz up through around 6500 - 6600 kHz or so. The higher it goes, the weaker it gets.

It sweeps quickly through that range in 2 seconds, then repeats.

It's not a constant carrier though, like the normal ionosondes - there's only a signal every so often. There are carrier signal on these frequencies as it sweeps:

2025.5
2098.0
2165.5
2231.0
2297.0
...etc

Not a constant difference between signals either. As it gets higher in the frequency range, the signals seem to turn into a "double beep" whereas at the bottom of the range, it sounds like a single beep.

Here's a video recording of my waterfall, using HDSDR:

https://spacetubes.com/DX/2020.12.02_0015UTC_UNID.Sweeper.mp4

Can't recall seeing anything like this before. I left it zoomed all the way out so you could see the sweeper going from left to right across the bands.

Location: N. Indiana
Radio used: RX888 SDR, 8 MHz bandwidth setting
Mode: SSB to hear the carrier as it "passes by", but AM detects it too, just like a normal ionosonde
Antenna:  south-aimed DKAZ loop

Some nice African highlife music with a decent signal into N. Indiana. FF announcers. Better signal than usual this afternoon.

Listening on DKAZ antenna and a DX888 SDR receiver.

General Radio Discussion / Weird interference on 31m
« on: December 22, 2019, 2045 UTC »
I am listening to (or trying to anyway) Radio Guinea on 9650 kHz, and there's this odd wideband RFI of some sort. I've uploaded a pic... anyone seen anything like this?

I think it's local, but not sure. If anyone else is seeing it, please reply back, so I know it's not local RFI.

Shortwave Broadcast / WWVH only on 15000 kHz?
« on: October 01, 2019, 2224 UTC »
I'm hearing the audio programming for WWVH, with the woman announcer, on 15000 kHz. Either they are substituting the normal programming of WWV with that of WWVH, or WWVH is coming in here instead of WWV (which I doubt, because it's just not the right time of day for that).

10000 and 5000 have the normal WWV announcer.
