Shortwave Broadcast / •CFRX• Toronto 1 KW power
« on: October 23, 2018, 2348 UTC »
Being in the middle of Lake Superior on a big hill such as I am; it's not infrequent that I copy •CFRX• from Toronto...1010 KHz on commercial AM dial.

But tonight it's absolutely clear and good copy. Yeah I don't even have EXT antenna so I'd  imagine any of you in the Great Lakes region may be able to copy :-) .

I like Canada. We all like Canada here in Michigan.

Utility / 11015 USB
« on: June 20, 2018, 2328 UTC »
right now @ 23:12z I'm hearing CW. And it's too fast for me to translate but from 23:00z to 23:07z, they were beeping the letters 'V' and 'U' over and over. I wrote it down, mostly was 'V' and now and then I caught a 'U' in there.

I was going to just report that, but at 23:13z they started beeping diff characters...I caught 4VUV4VU

Then they started beeping what sounds like actual msg...

so what's the deal w this? I'm just learning Morse right now so...u guys can check this out and report back to me! 8)

Hey I really like hearing these guys. I like to write down the msgs I hear when possible. .. (you kno I heard a female reading phonetics last night but I missed her code name!)

So have you identified any pattern in the msgs? For example, like the Cuban Lady reading sets of 5-characters...I know these EAM sender IDs SEEM to me to be 3-characters (like XP4, for example). Is there a consistent or alternating grouping pattern here? Have you noticed a pattern?

I've been hearing Brazil quite a bit which was a surprise to me at first. Anyway if •Radio Apericida• is really 1 KW power then cool; cuz it's frickin loud & clear in the Keweenaw Peninsula  8)

•still goin 0:33z

Hey guys I'm new I really like this website; I've been into radio for only bout 5 yrs and only SWL for 2 yrs.

I hear signal reports a lot. I own all sorts of radio equipment in storage...like an SWR meter (missing one gigantic coax). I'll set up SWR later probly for CB.

Anyway plz tell me how to read the •Grundig Satellit 750• signal meter?

You already know this but the top meter goes from 1--9 in black, then continues in green with +10...+20...to 60dB.

Bottom meter is read and goes from 0--5.

If, for example I receive a signal that hits '9' on top meter...is that "S9"? I see you guys reporting signal strength like that.

And does that meter show a SWR?

I hear: "you're 5/9 in Nova Scotia. You're 5/9 in Glasgow." Does this Grundig Signal Meter show me that ratio also? Or only signal strength?

Thnx again you guys are absolutely gr8

Shortwave Broadcast / CFRX Toronto 6070 loud & clear
« on: May 25, 2018, 2029 UTC »
I occasionally catch CFRX Toronto...the SW transmission of News Talk 1010 AM.

My sources say they're pumping 1 KW. I can usually hear em but recently the reception here is gr8! Today 5/25 I had the best copy of CFRX so far. It was as if I were in Toronto.

If u guys are in the Gr8 Lakes region...or close by Toronto, it's been excellent copy.

Of course it was bad news today tho bcuz of that bombing in Mississauga. But gr8 copy of terrible news!

Shortwave Broadcast / DPRK 11710 KHz
« on: May 19, 2018, 1410 UTC »
does anybody else in USA like to catch •Voice of Korea• from KUJANG? I'm frickin obsessed with hearing their English-language broadcasts! It's been a thing with me...trying to catch DPRK.
Well conditions + reception is getting better for that...I am hearing their French program now 14:06z. It seems like every time I copy their English-language program it's not optimum and I can only catch every other word.

I'm just intrigued and I want to hear what DPRK could possibly have to say to me in English! I'm hearing French very clearly now. Every time I hear English...too much noise.

Is it a...bad idea to ask for QSL card from Pyongyang? I want to, but...just tell me it's a bad idea plz!  ::)

Shortwave Broadcast / 15555 LSB...why?
« on: May 07, 2018, 1429 UTC »
Okay it's 14:26z and here I am listening to this preacher guy on 15555 KHz LSB.

Why? Why does this station broadcast on SSB? He's an evangelist...why would he evangelize only on SSB? Seems like he's limiting his audience

« on: April 30, 2018, 1243 UTC »
Hey guys I'm new this is my 2nd post; this site is so big I'm sure I could dig around and find the answer to this question but...what's up w the 'WLO' beacons? Idk Morse code. I'm learning. But these beacons are SO slow...I think they say 'WLO'? Am I correct? Why? And what for? Hmm :-)

12582 LSB
16810 LSB
