HF Beacons / Re: New Dasher Beacon! "KOK"
« on: March 18, 2024, 1115 UTC »
Aside from being in the 80 meter ham band (which could stir up a posse) there was something vaguely familiar about this frequency back in the cobwebs of my mind. Then it hit me, the old NTSC TV color burst frequency was 3.579545 MHz and there were always plenty of those crystals around to build an 80 meter QRP CW transmitter with. A little tweaking of the crystal frequency and there it is. Hmmm....

I believe I may have run across this one this evening while tuning around 8 MHz. Fair signal with moderate fading. Went down to the area of 4069.4 on the SDR and Icom R8500 with different antenna and nothing heard but I also have a higher noise floor there due to DSL noise. 8138.85 KHz 11MAR24 02:29z Airspy HF+ Discovery 60ft SE/NW longwire.

PCO with a very nice signal making it well above the CODAR and competing with what appears to be OTH radar bursts. Very little fading, best I have heard it in some time as local sunset takes place. 13563.55 08MAR24 01:57z Airspy HF+ Discovery 60ft SE/NW longwire

PCO came sliding up from under the noise around 00:30. Weak but there and fairly solid. 13563.50 16FEB24 00:30z Airspy HF+ Discovery 60ft SE/NW longwire.

Nothing else much in the band this afternoon other than CODAR, the usual constant data stream at 13560.8, and the Russian RTTY station in and out on 13558 KHz. Quite strong.
