I never had a Frog 100, but my first ham rig was an FT-840 from the same era - great little radio. Something to be said for keeping things simple.

Was also very easy to modify for all-band transmit, but that's another topic  :P

Audioslave - Gasoline when I tuned in.

S6-7 into central NC on a pretty crappy long wire.  :D

that being a rejection letter!  I've only been able to get a handful of these over the years...

I got one of those from the Beeb World Service  ;D Right before they officially stopped broadcasting to the Colonies.

VTVMs aren't too bad, but anyone that keeps a tubed 'scope running deserves to be commended...

Or have the thing put out of its misery  :P

That's the same card I got. Thanks for posting it! I'm still somewhat new here and haven't quite figured out what I have to do to post QSL's.

Imageshack.us is a pretty good free host. You have to sign up to get the direct links, but take the direct link URL they give you and put it between IMG tags like so:

Code: [Select]
[IMG]your image's URL here[/IMG]
And we should see all the QSL'y goodness here.

Very cool. I'm thinking about putting up an 80-meter full wave loop for 80m-10m use, with an L-network tuner and balanced line.

Wish I could find a beefy tuna for a good deal though, we get maybe 2 good hamfests a year :(

Ehh.  What's old is new again.

The line in the article that really bothers me is this: "thanks to SDR it’s no longer possible to assume that calls made over commercial and specialist wireless networks are inherently secure."

Put all your life online! All your current technology is outdated! Buy more!  ;D

It really reads like someone's trying to whip up a tempest in a teapot with this one.

Method of survival for a security contractor.

Equipment / Re: What Radio Did you start your listening hobby with?

I voted for the Grundig, as my first "real" radio was a YB400PE - but my first SW experience was on one of those MFJ battery-powered regens.

I don't think I heard anything on it but exhortations to repent, and maybe the Beeb World Service when they still pointed their antennas at us poor Colonials, but I was hooked.

They were damned entertaining reading, a helluva lot more fun than reading most amateur radio hobbyist sites that argue endlessly about the merits of the T2FD and G5RV, or lack thereof.   ::)

I'm a lurker on a few vintage car forums, and not once have I seen someone bemoaning the fact that seatbelts were made mandatory in new cars. But it's fair game in ham radio :D
