Utility / P and S beacons on 13528khz
« on: May 31, 2021, 2126 UTC »
Just took a listen on 22m and heard beacon "P" on approx 13528 and "S" in the same passband.
P was quite loud so presumably somewhere in Europe ?Beacon  S rather weaker but very clear.

I have never heard these beacons before . Anyone know anything about them ?

I only found them by chance as I was testing out my own JUN beacon - but I had forgotten that I had temporarily switched the crystal for a totally different  frequency hahaha

Hi Chris

Congrats to you too !

I think propagation is not as good as last year at this time. Last year I heard four beacons but none this year. I admit I have noot listened very much as I have to switch JUN off in order to scan the band but nothing so far. Not many reports of JUN either but Larry's recording has made up for all that !!

I will make a special effort to listen out for ABBY

Very happy to report that JUN beacon, located in central Florida, has been heard by VO1FOG in Newfoundland ......that's a distance of 2014 miles +/- a couple of miles. The audio recording was very clear with a  good strength.

Not bad for 4.5mW ;-)

I have received a report from one of my listeners that my carrier frequency has moved up 100 Hz to 13565.3

This is due to my antenna tuner pulling The oscillator slightly.

I have tweaked it back to its proper Freq of 13565.2 I think.

Please listen on both these Freq  I am running the antenna somewhat blind. I will try to find a sure fire fix asap.

I am working on a major antenna upgrade this coming week and I hope to get a significant improvement in signal ......might take ten days or so !

Meanwhile I am happy to have reports from 1200 miles away using Avery sub standard antenna here.

This is really good fun !

Hi Exo

By luck my beacon landed upon this Freq using the capacitors supplied with the Black Cat  kit. I have no other components at all in my shack here. I had hoped to get the carrier to around 13565  so it all worked out well.
Your shot of the waterfall is interesting you seem to have much more grot at 13560 than I hear at my location.

I must try to get some software set up so I can see what's happening as well as see it. What s/ w do you use ?

Regards

Vic

I have corrected the frequency on my original post as it was unclear.

Carrier freq is 13565.2kHz
USB dial Freq is 13564.4 kHz

Apologies for the confusion !
