Equipment / Re: L band antennas
« on: April 08, 2020, 2124 UTC »

Nice antenna the 3d printed part one. Pretty sturdy.

I've found JAERO, Fleetnet, Safetynet all come in fine on an indoor antenna here in S. Texas.

I built these out of nothing more than cardboard, paper, aluminum foil, foam and some copper tape. They just sit there on top of an equipment rack pointing at the ceiling.

Part 15 AM and FM Station Operation / Re: Part 15 AM and FM

Paul McCartney - "I'm Partial To Your Abracadabra"  Probably won't hear that anywhere else... :-)

Seatrain - "Song Of Job" Probably won't hear that anywhere else   ;-)

Reality is you probably won't hear much of this programming anywhere else. After 15 years of programming to people, this is stuff I like.

What I need is an accurate VHF QRP SWR/Wattmeter. I've been using a Diamond, but down to the 1 watt range I don't think it's very accurate. Need to be able to measure down to mw.

Got one on 89.5 covering my neighborhood + some

Ramsey transmitter, indoor dipole, driving the transmitter with a PC running RadioDJ into a Orban 1101e. I have a separate one on 1680 kHz as well, but seriously only covers the house and backyard.

Low bitrate pre-processor stream http://s2.free-shoutcast.com:18594/listen.pls?sid=1 from the FM station.

Other / MomComms
« on: March 23, 2020, 1730 UTC »

Since the hoarding began, I noticed a lot of InterMom traffic on the FRS/GMRS freqs coming from the three big stores near me. "Jill, meet me in aisle 11", "They still have brown eggs", "Bobby, grab tortillas", etc.

Also lots of Dads and kids playing prepper comms.

1100 UTC - two stations conversing, one one S7, the other S3 - sounded like Portuguese

There are other carriers there, just not strong enough. Almost looks like a talkaround channel. The signals are all slightly off center frequency.

Hearing more unusual signals hitting the local repeaters, so Baofeng sales are probably up.
