SDR - Software Defined Radio / Re: KiwiSDR v1.515 Improvements

Also, software version 1.471 added HFDL decode capability.

Good signal on the west coast. SIO 444 out here. Audio is 6+ KHz bandwidth. The transmitter has a bit of an unwanted sideband rejection problem so I was initially confused trying to tune them in but I figured it out after 10-15 seconds of goofing around. I'm going to guess it's MRI.

0215 - Female vocals with spacey background music.

0228 - Off, I guess.

SDR - Software Defined Radio / KiwiSDR v1.515 Improvements
« on: May 02, 2022, 1903 UTC »
I noticed some nice improvements over the weekend.

There are now two VFOs available (A and B) and what they call a "memory menu" (what I would call a "memory stack", where the frequencies get pushed down a stacked list). The latter was available before but reaching the different frequencies is now more strightforward.

Also, I had been having some problems with the frequency display over the past month or two where only the rightmost 3-4 digits were readily viewable often. I thought it was because of my new laptop and/or my display resolution selections but then I saw it on other computers. I use Firefox most of the time and it look like there was a fix for that made recently.

Likely the only use "mighty" for English programming/ID.

575
It was a Mighty KBC relay.

Yes. Recording has "Dit is K B C Radio" (Dit ees Kah Bay Say Rahdeo), assuming they use that as an ID and not "Mighty KBC".

576
Here is the possible ID from my recording just after the newscast....11 seconds and sounds like German OM and YL:

If anybody can ID from the audio clip, I would be happy to know what it is!  :)

Definitely Dutch and not German. I will struggle to get the station name with several passes over it but I will try and report back.

I don't think I ever got a QSL card (did they actually issue any?  ::) :D )

Well, this might a QSL card and they had a postal address, for what it is worth.

Those of us of a certain age will remember Radio Atlantico Del Sur, the PSY OPS station set up by the British Ministry of Defense to broadcast to the Argentine soldiers occupying The Falklands/Las Malvinas during the war. With the 40th anniversary now upon us, here is a back story to that station.

I don't think I ever got a QSL card (did they actually issue any?  ::) :D ) but I heard it many times and probably have a recording or two of the station somewhere.

Russia Struggled to Capture a Ukrainian Town. Intercepted Radio Messages Show Why

I guess someone is hearing all the Russian unencrypted stuff that we aren't hearing. I do remember hearing attempts to raise Buran-30 unsuccessfully.

I'm digging the tunage while I work late. Seriously. In college we called this "music that is sufficiently effed up".

Good copy in the midwest. S5-9 depending upon RX location at 0020 UTC. I see that the QRN is back for the Spring on the east coast.
Some peskie QRM on the LSB from time to time.

Welcome back Nowhere Radio (Tentative)

I had the same thought.

0107 UTC - somebody QRMing on the USB with The Beatles, "Nowhere Man" for about 60 seconds. (Do you get the joke?  :D)

The Ukrainian military says it has killed a second Russian one-star general inside of a week...

The announcement linked to a Ukrainian government website that claimed the death was reported from the field to higher Russian headquarters on an unencrypted cell phone, due to failing communication gear among Russian units.

Data transmissions. Likely what is known as STANAG but it might be another format altogether.

The worst case I've had here is someone from Taiwan who would connect to all 7 of the KiwiSDRs here at the same time, and sit on a CHU frequency for 12+ hours.

I'm sure it was some long term propagation studies with multiple antennas. The timestamps are built in. ;D  Or he reeeally wanted to be very, very, very sure that he had the time in English and French every minute.

I've seen this on some Russian KiwiSDRs too, where they have blocked reception of The Buzzer or the like. Example: http://msk.swl.su:8074/?f=4625usbz6

I'm listening to 3920 now (2230 UTC). Yes, this is the same thing, but with music jamming on top of it.
