Equipment / Re: Noise around the house

I live in a small block of flats & over the years I have noticed more noise on the LF & HF bands. Some of the threats could be HDTVs, wi-fi routers & any unregulated electronics bought online. An example is from around 8500 kHz to 12000 kHz I can see a very high noise floor on my SDR which is there 24/7. When I go outside to the small garden outside my block of flats with my portables the noise is still there. I know they have changed some of the street lighting in the vicinity from the amber type to the white ones which I presume are supposed to be more economical, & around then I noticed more noise although whether that is the cause I don't know.
But it is not only on the lower bands I get noise, I have noticed more starting to appear on the FM band as well. Sometimes I see random noise spikes lasting a few minutes from 65 to around 95 MHz. Again, I can get the same noise outdoors with my portable radios. One suggestion for the cause are solar panels which I am seeing more of on top of buildings in my neighbourhood & further down the road. It seems analogue radio really is at threat from new technologies.

I checked today on Utwente SDR & there is no sign of Voice Of Greece. China National Radio can be heard instead, so maybe Voice Of Greece has pulled the plug but I will be checking over the next week if they have decided to come back on air.

Thank you everyone for the information. I will be checking tomorrow if Voice Of Greece is still continuing on shortwave. I wanted to record what I presumed was their final sign off but was unable to. I was listening earlier in the day & reception was not as good as other days although very audible. Maybe this was because of conditions unless Voice Of Greece reduced their power output.

Anymore news about this? I cannot see anything to say if they will continue beyond the 15th of June. That said, the situation regarding the Greek oil tankers seized by Iran is still ongoing, even though Greece released an Iranian oil tanker a few days ago. Maybe an excuse to still continue on shortwave for the time being.

Thanks for the link. I think this could be related to the recent events with Iran seizing two Greek oil tankers. I was also told that towards the end of the broadcast I recorded on Youtube, that the presenter was paying tribute to the sailors.

I was listening earlier this afternoon to what I presume were the last ten minutes of Voice Of Greece. They signed off around 1703 hrs UTC playing their interval signal, then China National Radio was heard in its place. I will check the following day to see if VOG has definitely ended.

Update 1st June 2022: Now extended to at least June 15th 2022 according to an article in BCL News. Thank you Shortwave_Listener for the link.

Original post: So far the date of the last broadcast is on 31st May 2022 from around 1200 hrs to 1659 hrs UTC.
A reminder that Voice Of Greece's last day on shortwave is on the mentioned date & time from the information given so far.
In case you cannot try to DX this station yourself, you can listen in on Utwente SDR or Kiwi SDR on any available listening posts in Europe.

I was listening to 13760 kHz today which is the first of two frequencies for Europe & at 1350 hrs UTC it suddenly went off air in the middle of a song. I checked the 2nd  frequency for Europe, 15245 kHz, & it was still on air. Likely they are still having power related issues. Not the first time I heard VOK fall off the air.
13760 did come back on air a while after, although other times it stays off for the rest of the day.

Just had a reply from Radio Gaar. They are being relayed via Radio Piepzender, with a listing online saying they transmit from Zwolle, NL. It is a legal broadcast, not pirate.

I was receiving this as well yesterday. I know this frequency used to be for Icon BV Sunlite Radio, & they have done test transmissions in the past with no ID & non-stop music. The problem they had in the past was Radio Romania International starting around 1500 hrs UTC blocking their signal, but now with the summer schedules they can be heard better in the afternoons if it was Icon BV.
