I had a strong signal direct with my Sony ICF-2010. Sadly that receiver doesn’t tune very accurately in SSB so while voice sounds fine, music is unlistenable.
I will give direct reception a try later when it is darker. Still over 1 hour and 30 minutes until sunset here as of 0200 UTC.

This is probably JN53DV, not WWV. JN53DV is the Italian time signal station and plays music as well as digital signals in their broadcasts.

Not a pirate but rather a result of weird propagation. This is a Chinese station (CNR1). I often hear it when listening to European pirates with European KiwiSDR’s but I have never heard it in North America this late. Listening with the W3HFU KiwiSDR I can hear talk in Chinese that matches reception with the Dimapur, India KiwiSDR.
