This is a pirate, not a shortwave broadcast station.

6969 kHz is always used by Cold Country Canada and their mode is LSB. I didn’t hear it myself (wasn’t listening) but there is a very high chance this was Cold Country Canada in LSB.

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Radio Cairo 9440 AM 21:41 UTC

I tried to get the Spanish service on 9890 kHz around 0145 UTC and I could hear it directly with my own radio (Pigmeat, are you satisfied now that I heard it directly?). It was weak but I could hear audio okay. An observation that I made was that using my own radio or the nearest KiwiSDR the audio sounded okay while KiwiSDR’s in Europe had very distorted audio. I think this is because the signal was strong in Europe meaning I heard the signal clearly while it is weaker in North America and the static makes it harder to notice the distortion.

It is S9+20 with the Northwest Ireland KiwiSDR. Sounds like distorted talk under a massive amount of hum. Terrible audio as always. Always makes me wonder why they keep broadcasting at all. I guarantee that nobody listens to the station for any reason other than to log Egypt. Even then they probably don’t listen for long. Egypt probably spend a significant amount of money on power costs. The station was also just reactivated last year seemingly without doing anything to improve the audio.

Thanks for the information. I should have checked the British DX Club “Asia-Pacific on Shortwave” article but I thought I already looked at the July 2022 edition. I just looked at it and I see that this station appears there. It says that this station also operates on 1611 AM and uses the same antenna for both frequencies (of course only one frequency can be used at a time).

Hearing weak Morse code using USB with my Sony ICF-2010 on 257 kHz with the internal antenna. I do not know Morse code but “LW” in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada is the nearest beacon on 257 kHz and also higher powered than most stations on the frequency according to this list: https://www.dxinfocentre.com/ndb.htm Identication is Morse code followed by a tone then identification again.

Also hearing what is probably “DC” on 326 kHz USB from Princeton, British Columbia, Canada. Same pattern of a Morse code identification followed by a tone then identification again.

Also hearing what is probably “SX” on 368 kHz USB from Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada. Same pattern of a Morse code identification followed by a tone then identification again.

Also hearing what is probably “YWB” on 389 kHz USB from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Same pattern of a Morse code identification followed by a tone then identification again.

Sadly nothing on either frequency. I did manage to finally identify something on the graveyard frequencies though :D I heard KTEL on 1490 from Washington and a “Bounce Radio” on 1400. Bounce Radio is a nationally syndicated network of stations so there may be a few stations on 1400 with that branding but I suspect it was CIOR from Princeton, British Columbia.
