In the chance any of you folks ever hear a pirate claiming to be using "Kahn" or "Kahn-Hazeltine" AM-stereo, switch the Kiwi to SAS mode. I have yet to hear a pirate doing Kahn.

As with C-QUAM, there is a pilot tone with the kahn system as well, at 15Hz, Magnavox was 5 Hz.  This would be another tell-tale of stereo transmission.

A good signal here on the SDR recording. I checked for a 15 Hz pilot tone, and did not see one.

Recording of the sign on at 0127 UTC including a gmail address, rmpotion@gmail.com ? Any better guesses? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1021029304970252350/1116745946634658013/AmStereo1620.mp3

Sounds right to me. I sent an email. The fact he says “You may contact this teeny-weeny radio station” definitely seems to indicate this is a part 15 operation. Maybe retransmitted by the same guy that runs the 1620 transmitter?

Was the broadcast itself in AM Stereo or were they just id'ing as such? There used to be a legit AM stereo station in Eastern North America that used 1620.

It sounded like a relay from a station called Music Radio on 1620 AM Stereo. I googled that and found nothing, maybe a part 15? I didn’t try using AM Stereo, but I did notice the signal was 18 kHz wide and I don’t remember hearing that transmitter before.

Exact frequency is 6955.11 kHz. S9+30 with the K3FEF KiwiSDR. Really good 18 kHz wide audio!

Weeks ago, the op of Pushka told you (I think) that he had given up SW but that the SW station you heard in this frequency range "might have been his friend". The days when your friend was your (postal) maildrop passed a long time ago; in the age of email it's basically unnecessary.

Hmmmm.

No big sinister plot to uncover here. I'm just noting it.

He posted on Discord months ago saying this is him.

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: CFVP Calgary
« on: June 08, 2023, 1915 UTC »
I'm under 700 miles away from Calgary, but this one is a reach here during the summer daytime hours, and that Cuban jamming on 6030 can get in the way even after Radio Marti goes off the air. One of the ways I know seasonal conditions are changing is when CFVP comes in easier at all hours, usually in the fall and winter.

However, a couple nights this week, I've heard CFVP coming in over the jamming during local late-night hours. The irony, of course, is that the station's AM version on 1060 kHz booms in here at night year-round.

Interesting, I heard CFVP mixing a lot with Marti last night.

From World of Radio:

Hi Glenn - Back on May 30, noticed a  carrier on about 7399.83 kHz. AM, from tuning in at 0735+ UT. Best reception occurred
at 1101 UT, when I noted the often heard distinctive segment with a child's voice, along with a man. Sounded like the usual
Russian programming of "Radio Channel Eastern Star," with a lot of songs, but most of the time I was only able to hear the
carrier. Sent off a reception report and audio clip (attached).

Am very grateful that on June 6, I received the following informative reply. Ron (California)

"Yes thank you very very much for following along with me as I am setting up this new transmitter!

The power level at that time was around 5-10 watts carrier. However, by the time I write this email, I have drafted a different design
which gave me much better stability and audio, however, the carrier power is only 2.5 watts. Right now I am transmitting on 7401 khz
or so, I will fix this later, it's not too hard, just a line of code. I am currently working on the amplifier to get those 2.5 watts to 25 watts
carrier, once everything functions properly I will have the free time to send out QSL cards etc.. Please remind me on my other email
as well, 87.7fmradiopushka @ gmail.com .

Yes, I am going to rebrand the station into Kawaii FM, or at least that is my plan for now. There is already a Japanese segment of the
show on MTW evenings. Thank you again very much for listening, I might mention your name on air sometime if you are ok with it.

I apologize for the poor modulation on that day, the transmitter was not working the way I would have hoped too, I forgot that mosfets
have a threshold voltage."
