According to Wiki, he died after a short battle with stage 4 metastatic cancer.

Sad....

Espn's efforts to jam liberal political commentary into every broadcast hasn't made them any more popular.

You see that in all branches of media now, not just on ESPN.  Watched any latenight lately?  NFL rating are in the toilet after all this grandstanding at the hands of its' players.

Iheart has been circling the drain for several years now.  A friend of mine thinks they will finally go under (Chapter 7) in about 18 months tops.

As they say, they made their bed, now they can lie in it.

0302z Depeche Mode's new single 'Where's the Revolution' About S8 with the beginnings of some shallow fades.  Exact freq seems to be about 6939.996 KHz.
0307z sounds like the Black Keys.

Thanks for the show!

This is fascinating to me.  Running time is just over an hour.  It advocates open source as a solution to the crippling intellectual property systems that stand in the way of innovation.

A lot of the rock records I used to listen to became particularly bad around 2000.  Lots of clipping and overdrive, two things I can do without.

Most of the current stuff being pressed originates from the 48K 24 bit master, so it will still sound better than CD.  Outside of audiophile pressings, whose true origins are often dubious (read: marketing) just about everything done in the last 30 years is going to be off a digital master anyway.  Some of the indy stuff sounds like a cassette tape or MP3 anyway, so what's the difference (MGMT anyone?)  Digital mastering takes a lot of heat for the lousy sound quality we've all heard in the last 25 years, but the loudness war is more to blame.  I would rather have the final mix available before the mastering engineers and producers get their hands on it.  Maybe then we could get rid of some of this blatant clipping distortion that all modern music seems to be spiced with.

Just my 2¢

It boils down to how large your attic is, and what bands you want to work.  40 meters is about the practical limit for most large houses for an attic antenna, but you can play games with zig-zagging the wire around.  As long as there are insulators on the ends, at 100W I doubt you'll have trouble with arcing.  I would guess you'll have more trouble ridding the house and its contents of RFI.

Agreed, the modulation looks a lot cleaner than a lot of the low power rigs I've seen.  I still would have preferred a straight PWM modulator, perhaps with a crude voltage doubler on the front end to get the required B+, but you do pay for simplicity, design time/cost, etc.

Nice work!

Your mileage may vary, but I'll take an attic dipole over almost any mag loop.  I was able to squeeze a inverted V with slightly bent ends in the attic of my top floor apartment, but it had a rather high peaked roof.  It was noisy for receive, but had no trouble getting out.  I used plastic electric fence insulators with fender washers and drywall screws to the cross members of the roof, with a simple balun.

To an extent, I think the 'romance' of vinyl is in its imperfections, kinda like people.  You can get alot closer to the original master with a good vinyl pressing than with CD's limited bit depth.  I would prefer high bit rate FLAC to just about anything else, but the industry just doesn't want to do it, or anything for that matter that would involve relinquishing control of something they own.  I can tell a difference between 44.1K and 48K with modest equipment and a good set of cans, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I hate MP3's...

Note to self;

When house shopping, prioritize the following;

NO HOA,

3 phase power  8)

If you have no trees to hide a wire dipole in, your only option may be an antenna in the attic.  If your in an apartment and have access to the attic, you may be able to string a wire antenna inside.  I've done it in previous situations and it worked surprisingly well.  Just be sure the roof decking doesn't have foil coatings (like a radiant barrier) as it will act like a faraday cage and not let much in or out except noise.

Alternatively, you could try magnet wire out the window to a tree.  This is usually slender enough that no one will be able to see it and bitch...until they walk into it.

Good luck!

I got a few chapters into it about ten years ago and never finished it, kinda like a lot of books and projects over the years.  Interesting book.

I think the resurgence of vinyl would have happened without RSD anyway.  Everything goes in cycles, and vinyl never really died, the music industry just got cheap and stopped offering it.  Dance and indy labels never did.  I own a bunch of vinyl and keep collecting stuff I want physical copies of.  I still buy CD's too, but for stuff I like alot I have both.
