Lol I never read 2600 lol.
Cough.

You should. The last page features pictures of payphones from around the world, many sent in by our own Anti-Bozo, Al Fansome. His 2009 article, "Mylar Or Aluminum:Studies In Brain Beam Deflection" is still the cutting edge on the subject.

Ah yes, the 'offenders of the faith' page....

These will be mailing in a few weeks with our QSL's for the 2015 music recap show that aired on 1-2-2016.  For those of you that want to burn your own, enclosed is a cue file with track splits and cd text info.  This was mastered and burned with k3b/Brasero and found to work perfectly.  Nero should work as well.

Enjoy!

Considering conditions were not the best, here is an MP3 aircheck of the show recorded from the console.  Please note that once an official recording has been posted, logs will no longer be accepted.

Thanks all for tuning in!

Always neat to see the inner workings of stuff.  There are some guys on the internet that do just this, buy it, then take it apart and see how it works.

I seriously doubt much will change.  The commission is strapped for cash, and as such the 'Trump Action Plan' calls for more de-regulation which likely will mean that the commission will have to continue its efforts to cut budgets and costs.  I applaud these efforts, but I wish they would pay more attention to whats going on in the commercial side.  This whole HD translator debacle is devaluing both the AM and FM bands by increasing interference and lack of diversity in the name of more one-size-fits-all corporate formats from Cincinatti.....just what we need more of  :-\

I'm off my soapbox now.  Just remember, shop as usual, and avoid panic buying ;)

I heard bits and pieces of this last night while driving in the X-mobile.  Pretty good on peaks, but they just didn't last.  I think I heard a shoutout too  8)

Note the afforementioned problems with fets relates to their use in a series pass modulator in linear mode.  Your preaching to the choir here, I'm on the PWM bandwagon too, but it is fun to build simple things with little regard to circuit layout, ect.  I wouldn't want to build a PWM generator on a breadboard as circuit strays would hamper performance.  The linear series mod OTOH has no issues due to its limited response bandwidth.

One thing about the SiC fets though, their power dissipation is comparatively low verses other fets I guess due to the way the die is attached to the back plate.  In linear applications you have to watch this closely, as you can easily exceed the dissipation derating limits.

Saturation voltage will be higher with a fet due to the gate threshold voltage, a darlington is typically 1.4V, a fet can be as much as 3-5V which may impact your modulation overhead.

Just a thought...

I can't find his website anymore, maybe it moved?  Anyway, here it is.

On paper this looks pretty similar to Dave Martin's design, which works well, I might add.  The only issue I see arising when this is committed to copper is going to be the differential stage.  Historically, you would like to use a long tailed pair here to ensure good balance, but if you have a transistor tester that can show hfe, you can hand match two that will play nicely.  I had something similar to this running at 50W carrier using some big TO-3 darlingtons I found surplus and the circuit was well behaved.

Good Luck!

General Radio Discussion / Re: Pirate TV Broadcasts in Pirate Band

There is such a thing as NBTV, narrow band television.  most of the displays are mechanical with 32 lines in a portrait orientation at 12.5 fps.  There is software and hardware to convert NTSC/PAL to 32 or 60 line systems, some of which are color.  Bandwidth of 10 KHz is required.

Some software...

Also, check out some of the demos on youtube.

It appears their renewal was botched, but they kept the torch lit anyway.

Equipment / Re: FM transmitter

The first rig I built from plans on the internet.  It was a Veronica VFO thing, and it did drift alot.  This was about 15 years ago, total outlay for the parts was $40, made the board for it in Mom's sink (she wasn't real happy about that...)  I later moved up to a Harris MS-15 which served me well for many years.

Its too bad they want an arm/leg for old broadcast junk on ebay.  I'd rather see that stuff go to good use than in the landfill.
