I'm new to SDR and I recently ordered a NooElec brand RTL-SDR dongle from amazon.com. It is advertised as having a "RTL2832U and R820T tuner ICs on the USB deviceRTL2832U" with "an approximate tuning range of 25MHz-1700MHz for software defined radio (SDR)".
What types of transmissions can I expect to receive with this and what would be a good antenna to use?

I am currently hardware challenged so I was wondering if anyone was able to recommend an online receiver that would allow me to listen to sumbers stations and/or COTHEN transmissions.

Spy Numbers / UNID (M08?)

On 6 November 2011 at 0503 UTC I stumbled up a Morse code transmission on 5895kHz. I currently don't know Morse code and I didn't have a recorder. The transmission ended at 0538 UTC. This was using a Grundig G3 with the whip antenna. I was wondering if this may have been M08?
