Additional CRI loggings at ~0153z include 15100, 15125, 15160, and 15180 (weak digital).

Someone might have to help me with this one. Music with a modern country or folk like sound into talk, then it took a huge nosedive into the noise floor for the most part. I do get an occasional second or so bump above the floor with what sounds like maybe a few words in French.

Other / China Jamming of SOH 0127 UTC 5 Oct 2021
« on: October 05, 2021, 0131 UTC »
Nothing new, but logging it since I am just spinning the VFO right now. China using a likely ridiculous level of power to jam SOH on 14900, 14920, 14980, 15360, etc. Sounds like CNR.

769
It is a quite weak and fading copy, especially compared to the decent CNR broadcasts from the previous hour. I have some 16m conditions into eastern Asia right now, so I am going to say *maybe* RFA. SINPO 15411 via the 31' vertical and assuming it is not CNR or similar jamming.

770
Digital CNR on 17770, too, though I am using my Kenwood R-2000 so no decodes.

771
I might as well add 17565, 17580, 17605, and 17890 to the logging. Seems I have decent 16m conditions into eastern Asia tonight.

772
Traditional Chinese music format and interstitials. SINPO 45433 via the 31' vertical. Some fades, but a decent copy, which is not a surprise for a flamethrower 500KW transmission even if it is directed towards southern China.

News talk. SINPO 35433 via the 31' vertical. Some fading, but a decent nighttime copy for my locale given the broadcast is supposedly a 100KW transmission targeting interior China.

Usual jumbled mess of VOA with CNR jamming it. News talk format for both, along with decent signal strengths tonight. SINPO 41432 via the 31' vertical.

Should have mailed him back with a shack photo, then asked all of them? :D

I would say forward the report to IC, and perhaps CRTC specifically, but *good luck* assuming their own internal government radio enforcement practices resemble their amateur radio enforcement practices.

Equipment / Re: Best MWDX antenna?

Yeah I know. Here is it more like accumulating pine needles and shifting sand. I do not bother cleaning them off since it is in the edge of a wooded area. I might eventually get around to taking the leaf blower to it.

It is hardly a strong signal, but FIS 332KHz from Key West is copyable tonight on the Kenwood R-2000 via the 31' vertical. No preamp or preselector needed.

Heard some others. Just happens FIS is close enough and powerful enough to be a quick catch here.

That said, it is not a copy on the 148' LoG. Hmmm. Might have to do a VNA sweep there to see if something is wrong. Admittedly, it has been deployed for years and is almost more like a loop-in-ground these days.

Popped the Nooelec HF preamp in line with the 31' vertical to do a quick check for overload. FIS still was there, but I did use a 10dB attenuator at its input to cleanup up a little splatter from whatever MW or tropical-band flamethrower. Not bad for a basic $25 preamp IMO.

News talk format. SINPO 45334 via the 31' vertical. Moderate noise and some fading, but a listenable copy.

Certainly better than my earlier RNZ 13840 logging. The local estimated MUF is drifting around 10-11MHz thus far tonight, and mid-HF has been demonstrating it. Not even CHU 14670 or WWV 15000 at the moment.

779
News talk format. SINPO 25333 via the 31' vertical. Moderate noise and some fading. Local MUF is ~10MHz.

News talk format. ID at 0441z. SINPO 25322 via the 31' vertical. Moderate noise and deep fades. Local MUF is ~10MHz, so as expected, it is a varying rough copy.
