Better than a corn beef sandwich... :)

With apologies to a certain (momentarily queasy) NASA astronaut, may he rest in peace.  I couldn't resist the chuckle, sir.

*Nice* catch!  I too have only ever had CKJH once.  It was squashing WSB; I thought I'd mistakenly tuned to 740 out of Toronto, then went... whaaa?! :D

Had this last night, for the first time ever.  QTH Madison, WI.  I switched on the old Sony boombox bedside radio, intending to listen to the oldtime radio shows out of Hamilton, ON down on 900kHz.  Scrolling down the band, I suddenly heard--ooh!  French on 940?  Soft francophone pop/AC just before the hour, to a clear French-language 940 AM ID, then into a string of songs with very brief chat snippets between.  I recognized only one song - "Don't Worry, Be Happy".  All the rest were not in English, but were in much the same musical genre.  Who was this, anybody know, and exactly how unusual of a catch have I made?  I could hear WFAW out of nearby Fort Atkinson, WI beneath and occasionally above my friendly francophone visitor; my guess is somebody forgot to go off day power over in Fort.  Oops!

I've heard of those so-called fixed frequency radios distributed by certain missionary groups.  Frankly, that infuriates the heck out of me.  Way to hold intended converts unfairly in thrall.  Yecch!  If I had the resources and the know-how, I'd happily assist in the un-fixing of a few fixed frequency receivers, if the owners of same so desired.  Gah, the injustice wrapped in faux righteousness of that one really gets up my schnoz!

As for Brother Scare/Stair, BS filters+missing chompers=one impossible to understand hatemonger.  Smirk!

I just read this for the first time.  I'm late, oops!  When I saw 'no-no', I figured somebody swore on air or something.  Wrong kind of no-no, I guess!  :)

I read this article a couple days ago, during an early morning at work.  I maintain, as does the article if in different words, that this man is a musical pillar and a legend besides.  :)

... Upthread, I read the phrase 'go at the debate', and I could not get the obvious potty joke out of my head.  Lo siento, but really!  Oh dear.  :P  And now I have a second, rather worse, potty joke in mind.  I will spell out neither of them.

*goes back to trying to keep her politics and her radio geekery separate* Ahem.

General Radio Discussion / Re: Over The Top Craziness on 7200 LSB!
« on: September 24, 2016, 0456 UTC »
7200LSB can be prone to ridiculous ops at times.  I've heard a bunch of swearing thrown around before, which is a ham no no, people yakking over each other, basically CB band chatter on a ham frequency.  Frankly it made me a little nervous of going near said frequency if operating on 40...  Which I don't generally, as I'm currently a tech, but still.  Club station multi-op operation does happen.

Nice catch!  :)

I can't get CJEU here, as I've got WOZN The Zone (blah) as a local, and it is L-O-U-D!  Once caught CJEU when visiting family, however, trading places with a weaker-with-distance WOZN.  Hoping for a repeat snag the next time I'm out of the city.  If they do indeed QSL, let us eager listeners know?  :)

FM DX Loggings / Re: What is the farthest station heard
« on: August 29, 2016, 0223 UTC »
A friend of mine here in Wisconsin got Claire FM from Ireland, multi-hop E-skip, and he's got the audio to prove it.  It's up on youtube if anyone wants to search it.  I nearly fell over when I heard it!

The farthest I've ever gotten is either KIXY FM in San Angelo, Texas to Wisconsin, just a brief snippet but an ID was part of what I heard, or New Hampshire Public Radio also to Wisconsin.  That one was clear as a local for at least an hour, including local sports scores - the team name the Rock Cats was a new one on me, I can tell you.

I confess, Appleton, WA made me wonder.  I didn't know Washington state had an Appleton, and I do know that WI has one.  That's a definite location for that signal?

Nice catch!  I don't know the language, but the Persian music Farda plays is always great to listen to.

Norman, coordinate.  Norman, coordinate!  :P

I'm sure as heck not going to coordinate things if Norman says no, I'll tell you that. :)
