Hmmmmm.  I may have to take someone up on their tape-to-digital transferring capabilities.  I've got many, many cassettes I'd love to keep the contents of, and zilch when it comes to ability to shift them to a newer format.  They're nearly all recorded on four sides, not just two, if that'd cause anyone a problem.  I had a habit of recording radio programming on the usual one and two, then using sides three and four for live, unscripted recordings of teenage adventures a la summer camp and similar.  Heh.  Sometimes, sides one and two would bleed through to three and four, which was flipping annoying in the extreme.  Still is.  I wonder if there's a way to digitally clean that up.

I tried for this at 2330Z, got a carrier and some very faint, intermittent music, but couldn't ID anything.  Maybe I'm too far west.  Darnit!

Oh well.  I'll try again next week.

You got Tajikistan?  Wow, nice catch!  I've never managed any of the Central Asian nations, at least not yet.

This is just delightful!  Caught RTG on my first ever try for them.  2118Z with West African pop music programming interspersed with brief comments by a male presenter, definitely in African French.  Some of the music was very much Guinean/Malian, to almost desert blues, some was closer to Congolese, and one song was almost Cuban in style; all this fits musical history and influences in that region.  One probable mention of Guinea near 2140Z.  Signal fair in loud static and a high noise floor.  SINPO 32232.

I'm going to try for this one again in the near future and hopefully get a clear ID, and then off goes a QSL attempt!

If he has, I'm one doomed geeklady.

Yay! for the lock, in all seriousness.

Did anyone else notice any audio issues with KBC, right around 0145Z?  I was back and forth between two different stations that night, and I swear they went entirely off the air, no carrier or anything, for several minutes, then came back on again.  Transmitter problem?

This does sound like air comms to me.  Could you have been getting air traffic control somewhere?

Those are two seriously nice catches!  How in the world did you QSL those, though?  I can't find an address for a Wai FM reception report to save my life.  Do tell?

Oh, darn.  I figured it was Nita Callahan's cell phone number!  Then again, I'm not sure if Kit knows CW... :)

Bookworm geek alert, bookworm geek alert!

I had this particular station yesterday, July 16, well before 1700Z with lively East African pop music programming.  they went into news at the hour, male and female presenters, with lower audio (that or quiet speakers) compared to the songs they'd been playing.  Many mentions of Uganda, and some sort of chirpy possible identifier tone similar to what Brazil will occasionally use in programs, but this was right on top of other audio, not during pauses in speech.  Not quite a time pip.  SINPO 43354, deep fades but very good otherwise.

I'd been trying to figure out who the heck this was, spotted this topic and--gotcha!

Caught part of this show at 0052Z with electronic dance music, but copy was weak here, alas.  0058Z possible synthesized talk, but I can't be certain.  Signal dropped beneath the noise by 0100Z - darn!  Thanks for the show, though.

What's this 'just a girl' rubbish, now?  :)

Fair signal at best, just at the noise floor with some fades/transmitter issues, not sure which.  Hard rock music at 0018Z, and a clear XLR8/accelerate ID around 0022Z before back into rock music.  Wow is the noise floor high, plus static crashes all over 43 meters and below... and above!

Nice catch!  I do love Radio New Zealand. :)  One of my favorite SWBC stations.

I could hardly believe this one when I snagged it tonight!  First time I've ever definitely caught this station, and to hear it this strongly...  I know I said "How am I hearing this?" out loud at one point, probably puzzling anyone nearby (I was walking around with the PL-660 again.)  Here's the log as I wrote it down when I got back inside.

6110, Radio Fana, 0304-0320.  Horn of Africa popular music at tune-in, to Amharic comments by a male DJ at 0307, then back into music.  Programming continued in this fashion, mostly music but with DJ comments at 0310.  Signal fair overall, very good to almost armchair quality at peaks.  Amazing!  SINPO 43354.

Anybody know if Radio Fana QSLs?  Because oh wow...  :)
