MW Loggings / XEROK, 800 khz, 0550 UTC 10/7

The AM radio 'cannon' of Juarez, Mexico booming in over everything else with some guy talking a long time about what sounded like talismans (?).  He mentioned something that connected with your family, your children, your woman, etc.  Was no mention of Dios, El Senor, Biblia, etc. so it wasn't apparently religion.

Mentioned a Casa Mercado in Juarez, Chihuahua, and an address and a phone number (starting with 656, the Juarez prefix).  I think it was a sort of informercial, but I'm not sure really for what.  The word 'talisman' was mentioned, but it may have a different meaning the way it was used, or I could have heard it wrong.

Heard some loud ranchero music on the frequency earlier on the same bearing, but hadn't tried to ID it until I tuned back to hear this guy talking away in Spanish, w/ slight reverb on the voice.

Very interesting program... haven't logged this station here in the PNW since the 1980's, although another guy in the area logged them a few weeks ago.

Roughly 1300 miles -- the ol' TRF was doing its job well.  I usually DX MW on my boombox but it wasn't handy.

Conditions are pretty strong towards the south tonight.

Other / WWVH pummeling WWV, 10000 khz., 0530-0600 UTC, 10/6

About half an hour ago, WWVH was covering WWV, something I've not heard before.  Usually WWVH is way in the background.  Around 0530 you could barely hear WWV's announcements.

WWVH is still in very strong, much stronger than usual, although WWV appears to be strengthening again... very odd.

Heard some interesting programming on this station... It was the first time I'd heard it in a long time.  I think I logged it once before a few years ago.

I tuned into it by chance (I don't listen to the 25 meter band that much), to hear some Iranian language announcers and a lot of interesting music that sounded somewhat like a cross between Greek and Russian pop.

It came in SIO354 on my Panasonic RF-B45, peaked at SIO455 around 1659 utc., and weakened thereafter.  I didn't hear any evidence of jamming, but I'm way off the side of the transmitter's beam, any jamming signals would have gone the other way.

Tuned into a USB pirate radio broadcast that was coming in at S7+ on my DX-398.

I heard IDs as "Cool AM Radio" and songs by CCR, David Bowie; a plug for Free Radio Forum @ 0225; a condom safety spot, and into a couple songs that sounded a bit 80's (OMD and somebody else after that... then Robert Palmer, and during re-check at 0248 they signed off.

Strong, clear signals overall.  I liked the 80's sounding songs especially.
