Heard via Twente with good signal strength. thanx to tip from Twente listener sollak

Going strong at 20:30 tune in.

Still going strong when I left work at 20:48z.

I have the robot stuck in my mind like some demented song now. "banng banng pow miauw..." or whatever the hell it is.

I never actually heard them ID as "Voice of Justice" & missed the sign on & sign off. In the past they often ID as such during the program. The programming is definitely the same with an interview with a guy from New York (they like to get Americans to trash talk the US on VOJ) about a recent district court decision pertaining to Muslims in "New Ark" , New Jersey. The guy they were interviewing referred to the US as a "constitutional dictatorship" with "...all these rights they ain't gonna let you use" He obviously missed the irony of that statement coming from a muslim , speaking to an Iranian journalist (freedom of speech, assembly , & religion among others). He repeatedly referred to the US as being run by a small group of zionists to the delight of the Iranian interviewer. Another part of the program seemed to be lifted from "Democracy Now" on Pacifica. I listened for about 1/2 an hour & never heard them call themselves Voice of Justice though. The 31 meter band frequency was quite strong on my barefoot PL660 & the 25 meter freq was good but a little weak & fading.

I've heard this one before but it seems to have slightly different schedule/frequencies/transmitters.
I heard them today via Twente on 11720 in Arabic at 18:15z. Aoki lists the hour of Arabic as Saturdays only via Issoudon, whereas the earlier programs are on Sun/Tues/Thurs/Sat via Bulgaria. As I type this they seem to be English/Arabic. Translating somebodies comments about Eritrea I guess.

No Cuban jamming heard on freq. "Viva Miami" in English with reception reports & talk about living in Okeechobee. Great signal on PL660 as I walked the dog. I always thought Viva Miami was in Spanish. After 3:00z it was in Spanish. Slight splatter from rejuvenated Radio Cairo on 9965.

Surprised to hear Cairo with a very strong & clear signal. SAH on frequency from Palau (?). A couple of times there were signal drops but only for a second at a time. This was Arabic service  but hearing any signal from Cairo this clear is nice. Time pips & Anthem followed by news at 3:00z. I always thought Cairo did their "TOH" time & news at xx:15z. I wonder how long this new audible signal thing will last.

The recent WRTH update has details for a new clandestine radio aimed at Rwanda from a transmitter in Madagascar. Time is 1700-1800 UT daily on 17540 kHz, programming in Kinyarwanda and Kirundi languages. They have a website with an embedded audio stream player at RadioImpala.com, on silent stream when I checked at 1220 UT but perhaps active at the  SW broadcast times.
This time and frequency was formerly used by another Rwandan clandestine, Radio Mara, so I guess this supplants it.

David Kernick, Interval Signals Online  via dxld

I was already listening to what I thought was Radio Mara on 17540 when I read this. My Kinyarwanda is a little rusty (or non-existent) so I have no idea what the 2 speakers were on about but the signal from Madagascar was excellent this morning, S9+10 at times. I listened for an ID but didn't catch one but I missed the start of the show so I don't know for sure who I heard on 17540 this morning.

I did find some other mention of Impala on line but again my Kinyarwanda failed me & google seems to think it is in English.

btw the radioimpala.com site says it is "broadcasting from Kigali, Rwanda" so...a local fm that is relayed on SW?

General Radio Discussion / coolest DX catch
« on: February 01, 2014, 0219 UTC »
What was your best DX catch?

I remember in the mid 1990's when I first bought my house & was away from the noisy streetlights & was situated higher than before I would set my alarm for about 3:30 each morning & try for some of the RRI stations hoping to get some grayline advantage between here & Indonesia. I will never forget the morning when with the headphones on & pressing them tightly against my ears I finally heard that funky wurlitzer sounding "Song of the coconut isles" weakly seeping into my phones. It had that major DX sound like it was forced through water or something. I could picture the signal bouncing off the ionosphere & barely making it to me as I sat perched on the edge of my chair. I was so incredibly excited to finally hear it. I was using a DX398 and a random length wire that was about 20 meters long. No coax, no tuner just a portable & the wire clipped to the antenna. I've heard a lot of nice dx stuff since then but somehow nothing compares to that morning. Maybe the day I finally log LRA36 from my receivers but that has actually been somewhat sullied by the fact that I've gotten weak copy from various remote receivers of Antartica so I've already heard what it sounds like. With the RRI catch I had never heard the song before but had heard it described in GH's DX listening digest (the paper version that came in the mail) & I knew it when I finally heard it. Anybody have a similar experience they would like to share?

They have been off frequency for several days now. Usually on 11780 & sometimes a little high ,like 11780.1 but this is ridiculous. the parallel 6180 seems on frequency. Heard at 2:52z with ID & some of that nice Brazilian music that always makes me want to dance. I've been listening to them quite a bit this winter as the music from Brazil actually seems to make the temperature in the room rise & with this polar vortex crap.....every little bit helps.

General Radio Discussion / U Twente websdr chat
« on: January 27, 2014, 1543 UTC »
The operators of the Twente sdr finally got fed up with all the silliness (non radio related BS) that was occupying the chat box on their site & closed the chat "for lack of appropriate content".  Good for them. I used to enjoy going there & discussing what we were hearing on the HF bands with other knowledgeable & not so knowledgeable listeners. Lately it became just a lot of stupidity that was not in any way radio related & I just stayed away.

Clandestine Stations / Oromo Voice 17850 khz 1/18/2013

Oromo Voice is hugely inbooming this morning. with talk by OM & music. They are S9+20 here on my recently halved antenna & Grundig sat 750. Lost some wire in extreme winds on Thursday & only have about 12 meters now.

Clandestine Stations / Voice of Tibet 9322 khz QSY to 9327khz
« on: December 24, 2013, 1401 UTC »
Not strong enough at my QTH for audio but I followed the carriers on my SDR & the audio on Twente.  VOT went from 9322 to 9327 at 13:40z & the Jammer on 9325 followed about 7 minutes later. I usually hear VOT on its 15 mhz frequencies, I notice that the jamming is not nearly as effective on the 31 mtr band. VOT is via Tajikistan on this freq.

I forgot to turn off my alarm & on the first full day of my 2 week vacation was up at 4:30 am...good time to fire up the 'ol SDR & play radio for a while.  I logged quite a few stations that I normally would not hear, what with being at work. this was the best English language station though.

Voice of Russia 5885 khz via Dushanbe  100KW  137 degree beam   Fair reception in LSB to avoid "Brother Scare" on WWCR 5890 (he was begging for money...again. I guess all that transmitter time is costing him a fortune).

also heard with varying degrees of reception quality:
2850 khz  KCBS  at 11:45z     This one is a rarity for me as I have some serious noise issues on the tropical bands.

4055 khz  Radio Verdad   I hear this one daily but it was really inbooming at this hour (11:30 utc) with Christmas music

4750 khz   I was trying for the 2-3 minutes of English that is on Bangladesh Betar at this time. But I only got a carrier, carriers actually 4750 & 4749.96. I think Bangladesh is the offset one. This frequency is really quite a mess at this time of day. Up to 4 different stations on at once   PBS Qinghai ,  RRI Makassar (not sure if that one is actually on or not)   CNR1  &  Bangladesh Betar.

Also   4835  Radio Australia  usually completely splattered by strong WWCR which was apparently off at this time today (13:20z)
