Heard fair in MO with on the 1/2 hour news & commercial touting their worldwide coverage , that is now a thing of the past as they are down to 1 frequency in North American evenings and it has frequent QRHam. sinpo 24222, they were in clear but weak. not much worse than N.AM. evening 7290khz broadcast. Also on //5885. 9560 is via Novosibirsk,Russia and 5885 is via Dushanbe, Tajikistan. How the mighty have fallen.

Equipment / Re: POLL: What type of antenna do you use?
« on: January 02, 2013, 1727 UTC »
I'm using what I guess would be a delta loop 30 feet out from bedroom window to a tree. about 50 feet from the tree to another tree. this leg has a coil of about 35 loops of 14g wire around a piece of pvc in it. the third leg goes about 40 feet from the 2'nd tree back to the house. it is fed into a random wire tuner.
Sometimes I use an MFJ 1026 noise canceling unit as an active antenna. I'm too lazy to get out and put up proper noise antenna for the '1026. it works pretty well as an active antenna with just the built in whip.

thanks alot Token, I'm not up to date at all on numbers stations & your reply was very helpful. I had never considered the cell phone as modem aspect of digital numbers transmissions. It still seems like the phone/laptop would possibly betray a discovered agent by having a record of its use for this purpose. But what do I know? I still have a late 90's mindset as far as numbers stations are concerned. It's interesting that I had been up late reading Simon Masons book (again) when I decided to see if there were any #'s broadcasts on . I remember hearing new star around that time (10:00z) many years ago. It took me less than a minute to find HM01. By the way, I caught them in progress, do they still use the "attencion"?

OK thanks Token, I had seen HM01 mentioned & had no idea what it was. It seems odd to use a digi mode for numbers stations, I always thought the idea was to be sort of unobtrusive ya know... am signals not requiring any special eqpt. Digi sigs bring a computer into the equation ( I guess), or do they use a decoder of some type? Any analysis of the digital mode been done?

heard at 3:40z while outdoors away from streetlights & house. used grundig g3 with whip extended. "you're connectors are on...you're frequency is centered" @ 3:42z with spacey music. tried synch detector ( not very good on g3 IMHO)  low whiney het ...unable to lock. excellent in AM though.

copying fair signal back in house. still hearing the same spacey music at 3:58z.

Where do these new designations come from? They don't seem to follow the enigma classification system. kind of confusing.
