I heard the carrier as I was dog walking & continued to check back every few minutes & heard it fairly well at about 2:15z but only for a few minutes. Back home on the R 75 & longwire it was pretty strong S7 or so but never heard an ID

I heard this one while dog walking with a decent signal & music that back in my hardcore punk rock days we would call "the big hair people music". but when I got home & turned on the good radio it was decidedly more rock & roll'ish with "black magic woman at 2:40z. Steady S9+10 signal here in KCMO

Nice signal here S9+ 10. Also noted on Twente sdr.

pretty good S9+10 signal but went off as soon as I tuned in at 00:55z

Really big S9 +20 signal in Missouri. Off suddenly at 0:56z .

I have good reception of the station today from sign on (when the batteries in my ATS909x chose to expire...precisely as they were signing on) & still listening now. The signal strength on the ATS is about S6 , but the meter is sort of a weird bar graph type thing & I'm never sure how it translates into dbu. I am fairly certain now that France is the transmitter site as 50 kw from Kostinbrod would probably not be this strong. It has been all talk in presumed  Kinwaryanda language. by a single OM announcer (not his marital status...one guy instead of two, i think). considerable fading but never quite dropping below the noise floor.

17:50z  Checking on another receiver (PL380) the S meter peaks at 38dbu & averages at about 30 so maybe the ATS909x's s meter isn's as screwy as I had thought. Also the signal strength is comparable to 17850  RFI French service 500 kw at 153 degrees via Issoudon although Aoki still lists 17870 as 50 kw at 195 degrees via Bulgaria.

17:59z  Off, seemingly in mid sentence at 17:59

I had been listening to the Partial Radio India show from my office via Twente as I was working late (to make up for all the time I spent DX'ing on Twente while I was supposed to be working) Walking the dog I was able to hear Pirate Radio Boston weakly on my trusty ATS909x. I inductively coupled the antenna to a stop sign at about 3:10 to hear all of Peter Tosh's "Why must I cry". At home they were about S6 on my Satelit 750 /longwire.

Great show , Thanks PRB

I'm working late in my office & listening to PIR via Twente. They are about S6 in the Netherlands

Shortwave Broadcast / a new dog walking frequency 3:00 utc 9/13/2013
« on: September 13, 2013, 1308 UTC »
I usually stick to several known English language services while I walk the hound at 3:00z. Although I spin through the pirate band first & also check the 20 meter ham band most nights ( I am still as amazed by some of the DX I hear on 20mtrs as I was at 10 years old when I first tuned a shortwave radio). my regulars are

Turkey on 9515
Romania on 7350 & 9645
Australia on 15515  15240  15160 & others
New Zealand on 15720
Iran on 13650   15470
BBC on  15365
Vietnam (via South Carolina)  6175

Last night I added a  new English service

Radio Vatican   7260  via Madagascar  I don't see this one listed in Aoki or sw skeds but I'm sure it was them. Much talk about what a cool guy the new pope is & about church attempts to reach "the youth"
I found this one listed in  http://www.mwlist.org/

I often don't do a real bandscan while I'm with the dog because my hands are full with the dog in one hand & the radio in the other. I have lately tried bandscanning & checking unknown freqs via mwlist.org on my "not so smart" phone. Of all the different aspects of the radio hobby that I am into, this is by far my favorite one. I really like finding & ID'ing stations with a "barefoot" portable as we walk along. I get a lot of funny looks from people as I'm doing this & have actually been stopped twice by cops. Both times they thought I was walking at 10:30 PM with a fishing rod (the extended antenna on the ATS909x) in my hand. I didn't realize there was an ordinance against walking with a fishing rod, but what the hell do I know? One of the times they really seemed freaked out & put me face down on the ground & cuffed me until they figured things out. The other time was just last week & it happened as I was trying to copy an ID from a guy on 20 meters...of course the guy was gone when the cop was done harassing me.

Heard very weak on barefoot portable. I mean really ,really weak. I had to stand still & focus to be absolutely sure I was actually hearing music. Using my trusty ATS909x with built in whip. Tuned in at 3:02 & station seemed to be off about 10 minutes later so I was unable to check reception via "good" radio & antenna at home after pop-tart & Marlboro run /dog dx walk. Thats my idea of multi-tasking

Heard in KCMO with strong S9+20 signal but totally clobbered by FSK station.

598
Heard on portable while walking to 7-11 for cigs & pop tarts. I guess I heard the Pirate radio Boston part as logged by others. weak & barely readable on ATS909x but S7 to S9 at home on R75. Thanx for the cool show.
