Heard at 3:17z on a smoke break while working late tonight. I brought my ATS909x to my office & went outside & away from the buildings with it. RML was fair with Doors tunes (btw Jim Morrison died in 1971 I think, not '72 or 73)  I was walking over to the soccer fields to attempt to boost the signal by "fence coupling" but he signed off before I got there.

Thanks RML

Shortwave Broadcast / LRA36 15476 19:14 UTC 8/13/13

Checking via Twente at 19:15z they sound the best & strongest that I've ever heard them today. LRA36 is as strong and actually stronger at times than neighboring BBC Arabic service is. BBC QRM is usually the biggest impediment to hearing them. I hear rock & roll music & an OM announcer in Spanish. I'll try for them when I get home if I'm not too late.

I returned to work today so I have to get up before 5:00 in the evening & go to bed before 9 or 10 AM now. This is one of the few times I have checked for them in a while

At 12:00z on 8/12 all three RAF VOLMET stations were off air. The 11253 & 5450 frequencies were back at 18:00z check but 11159 has not returned. A possible QSL address is:

Swanwick Military
London Area Control Centre
Box 13
Sopwith Way
Swanwick
Southampton
SO31 7AY

Was quite strong here about 30 minutes ago but very weak at 1:50z

Heard weakly while out with my dog at 3:00z. Using Tecsun pl360.

I saw logs of this in dxld & am hearing it well now. British accented VOLMET naming locations in UK, Africa & middle east.

With each subsequent ID the number seems to change  22:20 was "this is military one time lot 3 information broadcast"
22:24 was "this is military one time lot 4 information broadcast"
22:25 was "this is military one time lot 5 information broadcast"
22:30 was "this is military one time lot 1 information broadcast"
22:34 was "this is military one time lot 1 information broadcast"
22:37 was "this is military one time lot 2 information broadcast"

Lot 1 seems to be UK sites
Lot 2 seems to be UK sites ( not sure about this one)
Lot 3 seems to be Mediterranean & African sites ( Gibraltar , Corfu, Dakar)
Lot 4 seems to be Mid east sites ( Baghdad  Kandahar)
Lot 5 seems to be mid east sites

obviously RAF VOLMET but the TX location is not clear. Possibly Creech AFB in Nevada or other western US base. or maybe Ascension.

at 00:50 this station is absolutely inbooming. The word "Lot" is most likely "Slot" so I guess the station would be called
"Military one....Time slot (1 thru 5)... information broadcast"

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Firedrake, 9745 khz, 1840z, 8/9/2013

I have been hearing them on 5890 at 20-21 UT daily via remotes receivers. Firedrake seems to like to sit on Radio Free Asia frequencies as opposed to SOH freqs. although there is no hard & fast rule about it. I've also heard them on 7220 around 19-20 ut.

Voice of Greece is still being operated by the staff that were fired a couple of months ago. They are sort of illegally running the station and transmitters. The schedule is in a state of chaos as they seem to change their frequency skeds all the time. The government apparently started moving to shut down the ERT transmitters in the last 24 hours although this hasn't effected the shortwave site....yet.

Tuned in when I got home & found RTN really booming in with Beatles tunes & a shout out to me at 5:03z. lots of thunder crashes (I haven't seen blue sky in days)  but RTN was on top of it with an S9+10 signal. great tunes

Thanks for the show RTN. I love the late night pirate thing

RTN still on at 9:00z but with deep fades now during "Urgent".  Up to S8 during peaks though.

I seem to remember somebody in this group who lists this as one of their antennas. I found this link after viewing it listed in their setups.

I added two new frequencies to my standard good reception memories on my PL380.

15720  Radio New Zealand International       Always comes in well during North American nights.
15365  BBC world service   This is via Oman. Usually not heard real well but was good tonight. It is jammed by China but the jamming is not heard in North America. I had originally logged this as 15370 as I tuned it as I went down from 15720 RNZI & it sounded fairly good there & I entered it into a memory on the radio as 15370. I just realized tonight that I had the wrong frequency & 15365 is obviously much better sounding.

Also I noticed tonight that Radio Australia on 15515 is in French 2 days a week from 3:00 - 3:15.It goes into English at 3:15 until 6:00. This is confusing as they don't always seem to do French on Saturday & Sunday (I get mixed up by skeds that use a 1-7 method of indicating what days a language service/station is on, does 1= Sunday? I can't seem to keep it straight).

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: what is up with cri 9570?
« on: August 06, 2013, 0421 UTC »
Slightly degraded conditions tonight. Perhaps you were hearing multi path reception. 9570 is via Geermu , China 100 KW with 172 degree azimuth. Just a guess.

Noted while on DX dog walk using Tecsun PL380. Unable to tune in SSB with that radio but could hear a station on frequency. Unable to judge signal strength without BFO but seemed fairly strong.

About S5-6 in Missouri.
