Thanks - this is a good idea! Do you think that the parts needed would be readily available? I emailed dishtronix (who apparently purchased Ten Tec) about buying the parts and so far no reply. But maybe all that is needed is a common part? I am not an electronics guy at all!

« on: December 05, 2023, 1553 UTC »A passing contemplation, but being near Chi-town, there's got to be a High School vocational electronics class, or even electronics college curriculum out near you. With the stupid high price of shipping such a receiver, like that Ten Tec, a suggestion would be to go to a principal, or a school Dean, and ask if you could present what you want done by students, and have them get a grade upon doing that project. That's what was done in New York State's BOCES, and later SUNY College, where folks could submit items for repair, students would get graded on the work, and the submitting person would only pay for parts, and not the labor. That's, what I did in High School, then College. And, it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than shipping that Ten Tec. Good luck to you.

Hello all,
I have an (old) RX-340 and recently the light (bulb?) that illuminates the S meter has burnt out/died.
Is there anyone interested in fixing this for me if I were to UPS or Fed Ex it to them - of course I anticipate paying for this to be done. I am near Chicago so if you are too I would be willing to drop it off and pick it up.

General Radio Discussion / Gone for good?

I would have to check my log book but it has been at least 2 or 3 years since Edmund Fitzgerald Radio has been logged/reported/on the air.
They were always a favorite of mine and they were good about sending QSLs for accurate reports. They were a regular around 11/8,9,10 to mark the anniversary of the day that the ship went down in 1975 on November the 10th.
I see SO MANY “unid” stations being reported that as somebody that’s been listening to pirates for 40 plus years I find it sad that EFR may have joined the “gone for good” list while stations that just don’t even identify themselves seem to proliferate - it is very sad. Heck, it can’t be too hard to come up with a station name - even a bad one.

I bought a D-808 a few years ago and I can attest that on MW it is as good or better than every desktop receiver that I own. Not sure about this new version but they got it right for the 808 (which if my memory is correct I purchased from a site in China and the radio was shipped to me from Israel). The only thing that I don’t like is that the radio can’t use regular alkaline batteries - just a rechargeable lithium ion type.

How do I “start from the back”? I can only access the front (the side you see when looking at the loop head). Doi need to open up the loop head to get to the inside of it?

Ok. So do you have any ideas on an easy way to try to spread the 3 parts ever sooooooo slightly to allow the busted off piece of the center conductor from the male to perhaps wiggle loose? I guess just “pick” at it as you suggested.
You see, I graduated from the brawn over brains school of thought so I will admit I leaned on it pretty hard to try to get that new male connector to seat! I’ve had to do that with brand new connectors in the past so I thought “what can happen??”

« on: October 03, 2023, 2100 UTC »Any chance we can get a picture to see what is going on?Sure - can you PM me your email or tell me here how to upload a picture - it’s just the loop head of a Wellbrook and you can barely see that there is the center conductor of the old male BNC fitting broken off in the center - I only figured that out because I couldn’t get another male BNC to slip on and couldn’t see why but now I do. I can fit a needle into the hole in the center of a new female BNC but not the one sticking out of the loop head. Ugh.
