General Radio Discussion / Re: O.K. I give up.

Unfortunately I only signed on to the FRN site AFTER the stink of wet fur had started to spread. The info I provided on sign up was either received by or passed on to the Furreh bunch who used it to try intimidate me. When I threatened legal action I received a reply from the Grand Exalted Floppy Eared one himself in minutes. The only way he would have known so quickly would be if he was the one in control of the site or if whoever had control of the site was in direct, immediate contact with him. When I asked to be removed from the site and any knowledge or info about me erased (which they agreed to do) I STILL received junk, harrassing  emails from them about someone else. So do I miss the FRN? Uh, no. Do I sound like a broken record constantly going on about the Furreh Bunch? You bet. And my record starts up everytime someone looks at me with rose colored glasses about the good old days of the FRN. I never saw them. The A*C*E. That's what I miss. The good old days of the early '80's when I used to be on the cover.

Just turned rig on; there's an OM announcer playing music. Didn't listen long enough yet for an I.D., I posted here first. Signal about S-3 over S-1 noise in North Canada.
***UPDATE*** Off at 0630UTC, then what sounds like pescadores on freq at about 0635UTC.

Killer strong signal into north Canada tonight. I don't recognize many of the songs but there's been several clear OM voice I.D.'s. Wolverine has the only SSB signal that ever sounds any good playing music.

He used to post every once in a while on the FRN, and (surprise surprise) even got into a flame war or two there.

A flame war on FRN? No way! Who would have thought it...

Got them in north Canada as well. Always a great sounding signal for SSB.
--CCR song, "Grren River" I think?
-- Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar"

Hearing them in North Canada. Was going to post this as a new topic until I saw that you just beat me to it. About S-1 in S-1 noise. Can hear music fairly clearly but I haven't listened long enough yet to I.D. anything.

322
Heard them, too...but I don't want to reveal my general wearabouts. North America...ha ha.
 ::) (you know the deal...)
Unfortunately, thanks to the Bunneh/Furreh Radio Network lunatic bunch my whereabouts, identity, and other personal info are known by pretty much everyone. If I knew then what I know now I'd be more carefull as well. But I never thought I'd have to be protected from other ops, ya know?

I had it clear as a bell here in north Canada but not strong. I initially thought it was a pirate coming on freq, definitely when there was a YL singing(!) but after listening for a while I concluded it was the classic fishermen.

One SW rig to look for is the Kenwood R1000. I had one and loved it. Stupidly sold it. They are highly regarded and in fact have a near cult following. There are a few mods to improve it a bit more. I currently run a JRC NRD 525. Also a fantastic rig but a little more pricey then the Kenwood.

Just turned on rig so no ID yet but I'm hearing OM voice and music on 6930. Weak, about S-1 with QSB over S-0 noise but pretty good copy.

Welcome aboard, Erik.

For what it's worth, rivalries between special interest websites are fairly common, although the FRN is among the more extreme examples.  You'll see rivalries among the highly competitive humor and social networking oriented sites as well, if you dig into the histories of reddit, Digg, StumbleUpon, Something Awful, YTMND, etc.  Each community develops its own shibboleths and arcane practices to separate the true believers from the unhip n00bs and outsiders.  There have been particularly intense rivalries between a couple of anonymous image boards.  The rivalry was so intense that certain keywords were considered bannable offenses.  Woe unto anyone who dared to quote a phrase or meme associated with the "enemy" site.

I've been active on a particular photography website since the 1990s and a moderator there for the past 10 years.  Like any hobbyist or artistic website it too has its share of drama and rivalries.  That's just the nature of creative folks who are passionate about their artistic pursuits.  Within reasonable boundaries a competitive spirit and insider jargon can help form bonds that stabilize a community.  Many of us participate on other photography websites and neither the members nor the administrators consider it a breach of loyalty, let alone treason.  In fact crossover participation is usually mutually beneficial, and shared membership can help disseminate news and helpful techniques more efficiently.

That, and the fact that Furreys made me realize that I'm not as messed up as I once thought I was.

Lots of signal into north Canada. Music sounds great, lots of high energy dance tunes. ID's by OM but VERY bassy/muffled sound makes difficult copy.
