North American Shortwave Pirate / exchange on 6925U regarding Kracker
« on: November 14, 2011, 0117 UTC »
Some sort of loop being played on upper 6925 with exchange between at least 2 ops.
"Kracker don't call my show" and various other things.

Hearing it fairly strong (S-5+) in northern Canada but the audio is too bassy for good copy over the QRN. Could hear OM give a long talk, then into some music.
Pirate war? This can't be one of the rabbits stations, people can actually hear this one.

Was tuning the pirate band, heard the tell tale sound of a final being dipped on 6.930AM. AC/DC with Bonn Scott, then Northern Relay Service ID. Killer, absolutely killer signal. Great to hear you again!

Got somebody just started up on 6950U, but not strong enough to copy yet. Can hear OM announcer but no ID yet.

Hearing in Northern Canada but still not very strong with QRN. Can hear music and OM announcer, but not strong enough to copy yet. Slowly building.

Hearing about S-5 here, not as strong as usual but great to hear an old friend!

I wanna make sure I have this right: a furry is giving someone a hard time for being gay? Isn't that kind of like Rosie O'Donnell making fun of Glee?

I disagree. He thrives on this stuff and likes to stir it up as much as he can, wherever he can. He has been a pain on other sites before he started this bogus "pirate war". The best thing to do is ignore him completely and stop giving him the attention that he so clearly craves. Then he'll just get bored and move on to his next group. That has been his pattern so far.
But on a seperate but related topic, has anyone noticed that on the Furreh Radio Network site that virtually all of the old sock puppets have vanished, but a crop of new names that nobody has heard from for a long time are on, spouting the same rhetoric, verbatim? Hmmm. What a coincidence!

Fairly strong S-4 into northern Canada but I have interference from another station on the freq. Clear I.D.'s of "X-FM" and "The Power of X". Great to hear you again.!
Update---Got them in better now as the only station on the freq. "Might as well be walkin' on the sun" song.

I have what sounds like carillon (sp?) or church type bells. Non stop, no breaks or voices. Definitely a transmission of some sort.

Interesting discussion, though.  I'd bet similar conversations 10 or 20 years ago would reveal very different profiles of typical SWLs.

Back in college, I remember reading old Popular Electronics magazines in the library (when I should have been studying). I recall a few mentions of pirates in the SW loggings column. One from the early 70s stands out, it was WBBH claiming to be broadcasting from the Cortland School of Music. It was almost treated as a scandal by DXers, for someone to be violating FCC rules. This would have been just a few years before the explosion of the top of the band MW pirates from NYC, like WHOT. But this was also back when you could be sure to get a nastygram from a ham OOS if you went 11 minutes without an ID. My, how the times have changed. Today's 14313 antics would make a ham from the 70's head explode.

Your post brought back some memories of a similar situation. I recall reading old issues of Pop' 'tronics as well. Tom Kneitel always wrote great articles on shortwave stuff and I remember being facinated by a story on Voice of the Purple Pumpkin. That was my first exposure to the existance of pirates.

The band is a bit shakey tonight so there's fast QSB on an otherwise strong S-7 signal.
