Unknown random dots and dashes 17917.95KHZ-usb (dial) 2314utc 03/26/2013

At first i thought this was a ditter but into my listening it made some dashes...

I didn't notice any rep time between the dots/dashes... seems to be random.

BTW I think the beep frequency because of my tuning  is about 1016Hz.

Any ideas?

17300khz 1625utc 03/17/2014 dat tones

Very weak & just at the noise level, I had to use noise removal software to hear what I thought I was hearing...

Sounds a lot like slow playing of bagpipes....  I remember hearing things like this as far back as the 70's to date... but back then they were just channel markers to keep the frequency clear of other stations.

General Radio Discussion / a question about the 'pip' stations....
« on: March 09, 2014, 1555 UTC »
I was wondering if anyone has figured out any kind of operating sked for the 'pip' stations, meaning when they are most likely to be transmitting...  or do they operate in a random fashion etc...

Just and idea.... I am finding these interesting for some weird reason...

tnx folks

Very strong signal 599 with some fading. Not sure where to put this one <sigh>:

20wpm CW 5 letter groups 14527khz (zero beat) 2230utc 03/07/2014

Text is like "GVYHN SSGRJ STJNG QVAXT ..."

This signal at times takes on an echo type sound... double reflection...?

Any ideas folks?

« on: March 03, 2014, 1638 UTC »
Don't have any idea what this one is & I hope someone else is around to try to hear this one, might be local but I doubt it very much because of the fading.  Not really data because it keeps repeating over and over... reminds me of someone running their thumb across the teeth of a comb...  Tones go from high to low...  might be a beacon?  or a frequency marker???  whatever ???

17088 KHZ USB 1626 UTC  03/03/2014

I'll try to put the sound file up later today...

Strange because it was in LSB not USB...

HF Beacons / battle of the beeps 13560.09 khz 1817utc 16-02-14
« on: February 16, 2014, 1821 UTC »
I'm listening on 13560.09 khz right now (USB) and I am hearing about 2 different beeps from 2 different stations, the timing is different for both but the 2 second beeps is strongest.

hold that thought... at one point they were in sync but now they are independent...

Kinda sorta sounds like the old video game pong but I digress ;-)

Utility / 18594khz USB you might find interesting ;-)
« on: February 16, 2014, 0416 UTC »
I've been listening to 18594khz USB around 1600utc (and earlier). You'll hear a lot of digital sounds and once in awhile you might hear something like; "one niner charlie panther"... it's a mil aircraft and it can prove to be interesting listening.

Just a heads up for those that like to sit on a frequency for Loooong periods of time ;-)

HF Beacons / Beep every 2 seconds 13560 Khz
« on: February 12, 2014, 1600 UTC »
Another one:

13560 khz 1545 utc 02/12/2014  599 signal off at 1554 utc

Having 2 receivers going at once helps :-) Once upon a time I used 6 receivers at once... all tube rigs... you should have seen my light bill :-)
