1446z Carrier is easily detectable w/narrow filter and BFO, audio can be heard on signal peaks ...

1450z Signal took a big fade ... carrier nearly went away but it's back now (still below S1) ...

1505z Signal still present, some audio detectable now and again ...

1533z Carrier still present, not detecting much audio ATTM ...

1552z Carrier still detectable, but that is about all now owing to propagation ...

1611z Signal averaging S5 with a peak observed at S5 and hearing a bit more audio now too ...

1638z Signal back to being under S1 ...

The deployment of television-band white spaces represents a rarely used model for the F.C.C., which historically has operated under more of a command-and-control model, in which it tells licensees what they can use their spectrum for.

A potential minefield; bad enough the digital TV signals break up, freeze, are unusable where they used to be usable, but now the potential for a STRONG emitter the next channel over can cause adjacent channel overload problems with a plethora of near-fringe-area receivers ...

GREAT!

Maybe this will help with the demise of terrestrial broadcast TV (and the networks! Broadcast TV already suffers from lack of content anyway) ...

The stronger, faster networks will extend broadband signals to bypassed rural areas and allow for smart electric grids,

Bzzzzt!

Epic fail; the day that the local distribution network is completely computerized is also the day androids will be driving the electric utility trucks ... one thing I learned in the five local power outages we had is - the guys arriving on the scene for the 'service call' will "drive the line" looking for a downed wire or a tree against the line or maybe a poor CBer whose mast has fallen onto the primary distribution line (it has happened!!!) ... how's a so-called "Smart Grid" going to do that? Ans: they aren't ...

Power substations already have 're-closers' that will attempt to restore power several times before finally giving up (ever notice how your lights after going out sometimes will come back on a couple times before finally staying off or staying on?) so this 'smart grid' is just more fanciful sales and marketing to the public so's the public will know what their utility dollar is  being spent on ... but it won't improve service or your life; just eases the power co's ability to do a remote cut-off if you don't pay your bill ...
