Huh? / Prince Buster, Ska Pioneer, Dies Aged 78
« on: September 09, 2016, 1742 UTC »
Two-tone bands like Madness and The Specials owe their careers to this man's music.

"Waiting On a Friend" at 2345 UTC.  S7-S8 in NY.  Frequency is 6924.3 for me too.  Captain Sensible "Wot" at 2349 UTC.  "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" at 2353.  "Beast of Burden" at 2355.

183
Just tuned in at 1748, to hear the end of "Dreaming" by Smallpools, followed by ID at 1750 UTC.  S7 signal in New York with strong audio.

184
I tuned in around 1310 and only had a weak carrier.  The band appears to be opening now, as I've got some music at 1319 UTC.  Frequency is closer to 6925.3 kHz.

Band just opened at 1332 UTC, can copy "Dna (Alex Metric Remix)" - Empire of the Sun (per Shazam).

185
I've got a carrier here and some very weak audio at 2328 UTC.  Talk by OM at 2330 UTC.  Noise levels are just too high to copy anything unfortunately.  This could be Radio Marabu, maybe someone else will get a clear ID.  S5 signal in NY, but most of that is noise.

186
The band finally opened up for me.  Earlier at 1510 UTC only had a weak carrier.  Now at 1521 UTC I've got "Video Killed the Radio Star" at S8 levels, with very clear audio.  Signal took another big jump, now at S9/+10 to S9/+20 with "Dangerous" at 1526 UTC. 1528 UTC Brothers Johnson and "Strawberry Letter 23".  1533 UTC "The Way it Is" - Bruce Hornsby.  Signal still S9/+10 dB here.

187
"Pumped Up Kicks" at 2350 UTC when I tuned in.  S8 in NY, with lots of static crashes unfortunately.

188
Tuned in at 2338 with Merle Haggard's "Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down".  S9 in New York, nice audio.  I'm not a country music fan, but I always appreciate these classic songs.  They sound great on the radio, and are much better than what's played on country radio these days.  I've got their carrier on 6925.1 kHz.

First chance to tune around 43 meters this evening, and I also came across this carrier at 2340 UTC.  S7 in New York.  No trace of audio.

Hearing CW at S6 levels in NY at 1426 UTC.  Figured I'd post first, then fire up the software to try to decode it.

Stranglers "Golden Brown" at 1430 UTC.

There was some more CW at 1439, I didn't catch all of it, but here's what CWGet decoded:

Tuned in at 0106 UTC, heard "Manic Depression".  Now at 0108 Bob Dylan.  S7 signal in NY.  Modulation seems a bit low, otherwise clear audio.

Just tuned in at 2110 UTC, playing Elvis Costello's "Radio Radio".  S7-S8 in New York.  Good audio.

Nice ID at 2113 from Mr. Azimuth Coordinator.  Said this is a special shoutout program for all the listeners to the HFU.

2114 "Strange Overtones" - Byrne & Eno
2118 "One of These Nights" - Eagles
212x "It's My Life" - Talk Talk
2126 Another ID, including FM frequency.  "Can't Stand Losing You" - Police
2130 "Gimme Some Slack" - Cars
2133 "Dream Weaver" - Gary Wright
2137 "I Won't Let You Down"

Forgot to mention there is a buzzsaw type of QRM around 6145 kHz, but your signal is able to override it.  It helps to use Sync + USB.

A brand new SDRplay is only $150.  You may want to reconsider your selling price.

Sounds like some nice Bluegrass I'm hearing right now at 2355 UTC.  Carrier may have moved down slightly, as I've got them on 6850.2 kHz.  S9 in NY.
