HF Beacons / 4096 beacons
« on: December 14, 2009, 2012 UTC »
Was wondering if anyone else has noticed the absence of Kelsie on 4097.4, the highest in freq of the 4096 pack?  Hexie at 4096.24 is its usual companion is still there but Kelsie has not been seen or heard here for a couple of weeks.

HF Beacons / Friday in NUT
« on: November 13, 2009, 1519 UTC »

Remembered to listen in this morning, heard A-2079 last nite after sunset but not there this morning.  Maybe the battery is not making it thru the night.  OK, MO, WW, TMP, and the Calif Death Valley Ditter were doing weak to fair at ~1330 utc.  Hexie and Kelsie of the 4096 group were doing ok at the same time as well.  The Calif Whooper was not heard until 1500 utc.  KX was also a fair signal at 1330.  Wind beacon in most of the time.  Found SD on a re-check at 1445.   Listened for Sally on ~5205.300 and it popped in just now as I am typing at 1510 utc.  Got a couple of different transmissions going on on that freq that make it tough.  Some sort of wide band digital transmission and what I call OTHR pulses.

« on: October 13, 2009, 1710 UTC »
Have been hearing both Echo and CO this morning.  Been awhile since I last heard Echo.  Sun must be out as well today as Pike 78 is on 8003.780.  Rainy, Hexy2k, S (8000.4), and OR all logged here so far.

HF Beacons / What I heard Portable
« on: August 18, 2009, 1632 UTC »

I was camping this last week in the Uinta Mountains, about north central Utah.  Took along the R-75 on a battery and used a long wire antenna, about 200 feet.  What a difference not having to use a noise blanker, amazing how weak the signals are that you can hear.  Heard A, OK, MO, TMP, 4089 ditter, Hexie, Kelsie, W(ind), Sally, Rocky, Rainy, Hexy2k, S (8000), Pike 78, OR, F, Pike 26, Echo and CO.

Hearing Sally again was nice.   Was pleased to hear Echo again.  It got quite strong up there.  Looked for Blinky but never heard it at the times I listened.

HF Beacons / 4060 this morning
« on: July 25, 2009, 1459 UTC »

Copied a beacon this morning on 4060  (~4059.937) at 1240 utc.  It was in for awhile, lots of QSB at first then got good copy then back to QSB and gone.  It is not sending "TR" but something else in morse code.  Which I will leave for you to copy!  If you can.  I will say it is a short message.  I thought this freq originated in Colo, but I now believe it comes from So. Calif after reviewing "The 4096's" page.

HF Beacons / Rocky and Rainy together?
« on: July 18, 2009, 1615 UTC »

I believe I am copying Rocky and Rainy together here this morning at 1600 utc on 6626.2 and 6626.4 approximatly.  If  anyone can confirm I would sure appreciate it.  I have seen where the tow of them would sound similar and then recently seen that rocky could also be dits that would run at various speeds depending on voltage.  Based on that I would say I am hearing them both.  Have argo screen which I will try to attach and audio if anyone is interested in hearing.

Tnx!  Mark, in NUT

HF Beacons / Beacons Heard here in NUT
« on: June 28, 2009, 1421 UTC »
Prop picked here this morning with the CA Whooper showing up and SD as well from its new location.  Been watching for TR but no luck so far.  TMP was an incredible S-7 on the R-75 and dipole yesterday morning along the W(ind) beacon at an S-6.  The strong signals seemed isolated to those two.  6626 Hexie 2 is missing as a regular?

HF Beacons / 4096 6 dots and a Dash?
« on: May 03, 2009, 0252 UTC »
Been running thru the memories this evening and while logging Hexie and Kelsie on 4096.25 and 4096.96 (approx) I noticed another dasher down lower on what I measured as 4095.830 and wondered if it was the six dots and dash beacon, location unknown.  All I was hearing so far is the long dash.  A couple of times I imagined with help from ESP that there might be some dots in there, but I wont claim to of heard them yet!  The wind is blowing purty good tonight on 4102.3!  OK, MO, death valley ditter and the TMP have all been in along with Rainy, Hexy2k, SSSSSSS on 8000 and OR copied earlier!
