This is not a Beacon or CW marker, this is ham radio operators, amateur radio operators, on the 160 meter band communicating in Morse code.  You will find this traffic regularly from 1800 to about 1830 kHz.

The following chart is what V24 schedule looks like today (late December, 2016).  However, I have to say, there are changes seemingly monthly, so I have no idea how applicable this sched will be to next month.

Software / Re: Question for SdrDx Users
« on: December 19, 2016, 2056 UTC »
I am not 100% sure, but I think these are just status indicators, nothing you can change.  The first part is clear, it is connected to an AFEDRI-SDR.  I think the second part is drift in ppm based on temp, but I am not sure, at least mine seems to follow temp.  The third, the MP, I think is missed packets.  Mine always misses a bunch of packets on startup, so the number climbs when I light the thing off and then stops.

Wolverine with "Testing 123, can anybody hear me" sign on at 0130 UTC, 6950 kHz, USB mode, 18 December, 2016.

Nice signal into the high desert tonight, and sounds good on the house sound system.  Mrs T says Hiya Wolverine, and thanks in advance for the show!

(edit) Possibly a California bound theme, maybe specifically San Francisco, since I think every song has mentioned San Fran.

I can't speak to the other two freqs, but 5170 kHz is probably Taiwanese weather station CWB.  You will find it paired with 8117 kHz.  Female voice, looped information.

Those kind of signals do not need an enigma designator to me... but it's a different story..

These kinds of signals were just given an ENIGMA designator as an oddity signal.  Just an easy way to say something and everyone understand what was meant.  XM is the feedback sometimes called "backwards music" or "whales", XWP is CODAR radar, XSL is the Japanese Slot Machine, etc.  Most of these were assigned before the real source of a signal was known, so it was an oddity until the source was figured out.  As I understand it the "X" designators were originally meant to be used that way, but the practice of assigning those seems to have fallen by the wayside.  The last one I am aware of was XUP in 2010.

Utility / Re: WWV 5000 AM, STANAG?
« on: December 12, 2016, 1603 UTC »
STANAG type signal heard on WWV, 5000 kHz @2243z.
About 10kHz wide.
WWV JBA.

0303z Signal still there, severe interference w/WWV. Strange.

I never saw this signal on this date, so I don't know what it was, but if by STANAG you mean STANAG 4285 that would not be 10 kHz wide.

On Dec 11 I did see a STANAG 4285 signal in the USB of 5000 kHz, only on European remotes, however that was the standard ~3 kHz wide 4285.

Utility / Re: Numbers station 6.739 USB 0348

I moved this post to the Utilities forum because messages on the HF-GCS network are not generally considered "spy numbers" transmissions.

That is radar, each burst is in FMCW mode.  Which radar is hard to say, as the waveform is pretty common and impossible to narrow down, but quite possibly JORN out of Australia, it is the best known of the radars with this type of transmission.
