Thanks for the show, Capt!

Utility / 518 kHz NAVTEX
« on: October 04, 2011, 1259 UTC »
I ran MultiMode (http://www.blackcatsystems.com/software/cw-rtty-sstv-fax-psk31-packet-decoding-software.html) last night, and logged the following NAVTEX stations. Not too impressive, but maybe I'll pick up some new ones once we get into winter. I also want to try to log some of the 490 kHz transmissions.

A Miami, FL
B Bermuda
C Sept-Îles - Rivière-au-Renard, QC
F Boston, MA
G New Orleans, LA
N Chesapeake, VA
P Thunder Bay, ON
R San Juan, PR
U Saint John, NB (NS)

There is an excellent list of NAVTEX stations and schedules here: http://www.dxinfocentre.com/navtex.htm

Equipment / Hyper Hanger vs EZ-Hang
« on: September 29, 2011, 2358 UTC »
Has anyone here used a Hyper Hanger? http://www.radiowavz.com/html/hyper_hanger.html

I've had an EZ-Hang http://ezhang.com/ for several years now (maybe 10) and while it does work, I'm always on the lookout for something better.

Equipment / Signal to Noise Ratios
« on: September 29, 2011, 1753 UTC »
There's been some... discussion about transmitter power levels, and how many watts does an operator need to "get out". I put together a short blog entry on it, which includes some simulated recordings of various Signal to Noise Ratios (SNRs): http://www.hfunderpants.com/?p=121
