0218z: Just tuned in to catch end of pop song and WEAK Radio ID
0224z: Back after fade out, banjo and singing, can't quite make it out over local RFI
0228z: "Titanic, Fare Thee Well", not sure which version. (Hey, I was just talking about this song a little while ago!)
0240z: Self "Titanic"
0300z: WEAK ID and gmail addy

0545z: Just barely audible, caught while listening for AM mode pirate.  Brief QSO in Spanish, heard only one side of QSO in Spanish, OM talking and then reciting standard alpha-numeric phonetics in English.  Sounded like live QSO, not recorded.

Reportedly this was Radio Anarchy testing.

8899 AM
Since around 2228 UTC, hearing occasional thumping rhythms down in the mud, vocals sound like heavy metal yelling stuff. Jussst barely audible here, best in USB so far.

2243z: Lots of tweeps and tones, and a bunch of heterodynes - hets seem normal for 8900. Only station I've heard here before was an African clandestine.

2249z: More thumping, grinding rhythms with punchy bass on bottom end. Also a distinct carrier on 8900 but nothing audible there.

2300z: Rumbling bass suddenly stopped. Just a couple of carriers on 8899 and 8900.
2319z: Country-sounding song.
2337z: Ramones-sorta sounding music.
0034z: Still occasionally audible, rock music. Seems to be some long pauses between transmissions at times.

SINPO - 23311, lots of fades to inaudible with carrier completely disappearing, then floating back over noise. Some QRM from what may be an African clandestine on 8900 and pesque chatter on 8897 LSB.

Pretty good signal fighting through heavy local RFI. SINPO - 32232

I remember that "Convoy" was a book; I don't  recall whether it came before or after the song. it was a terrible book, involving the consumption of a dog, as I recall.

"Congo".  I think that's the book you're thinking of.  Or "Good Things (To Make With Dogs)" by Martha Stewart.

0220z: Van Halen, Outhouse Radio ID, Girls Get Prettier At Closing Time.
0225z: ZZ Top "Legs"
0232z: "Convoy", Roger Miller "King of the Road"
0250z: AC/DC

Good signal.  First time in months I've heard Outhouse after dark here, usually only catch 'em during the day.  Dunno if conditions have changed or something else is to blame.

6950 USB
0310z: Brewer and Shipley "One Toke Over The Line", SSTV with Wolverine Radio logo. (Per DB, appears to be one panel of an R. Crumb era stoner poster. Remember that feeling well...)

Just above the noise level here.

0358z: WEAK Radio ID, parody commercial for "Parents of Girls Gone Wild".
0403z: Punk song with "I'm a born loser, I never had no luck" in lyrics.

SINPO - 34322. Regular cycles of good signal for a few seconds at a time, then fades to barely audible for a minute. Puny propagation again after a couple of fairly good days.

0002z: Soul Asylum, lotsa comb filter/reverb fx in background
0006z: Outhouse Radio ID w/ same comb filter/reverb
0007z: More Soul Asylum
0012z: Outhouse Radio ID w/ same sound fx, more Soul Asylum music
0017z: ID, same fx, steep fade, right at S3 noise level now.
0025z: Hot Rod Lincoln, back up to S7 peaks over crashes
0037z: Sounded like variation of Billy Preston's "Outa Space" or "Space Race"?

Good signal, S4-S9 over S2-S3 static crashes

North American Shortwave Pirate / KPR 6932 USB
« on: April 07, 2010, 0114 UTC »
4/7/10
6932.1 or .2 USB and slowly drifted downward before settling at 6931.9.

0013z: "Son of a Preacher Man", KPR ID, mention of FCC, shout out to FRN, "rock the Rockies" slogan and a hearty "f**k you to the FCC".
Only around S2 here in Gopher Stomp, TX, but fairly low noise so generally good audibility.

0020z: KPR ID, Steppenwolf "Born To Be Wild". More fading and noise now.
0024z: Hey, got a shout-out from KPR op! E-mail, sounded like kpr88.1 at hotmail.  Talking about North-South antenna setup, probably good for listeners within short skip.  Time when gas was 28 cents a gallon.
0027z: Big Bopper "Chantilly Lace"
0029z: KPR op talking about musicians who died young - Big Bopper, Richie Valens.
0031z: Richie Valens "La Bamba" (nope, my mistake, this sounds like Los Lobos version)
0038z: LOL! The Archies "Sugar Sugar" (actually, a great pop song). Drifting a bit, around 6931.9 now.
0042z: Lesley Gore "It's My Party"
0046z: KPR op talking about another pirate being busted, sounds like referring to FM pirate (some details obscured by regional static crashes)
0058z: KPR ID after "American Pie". Sounds like he's wondering about number of shortwave pirate listeners (mostly obscured now by increasing local RFI here)
0100z: Off

Good to hear ya again!

1225z: Voice of the Last DJ ID
1225z: Cat Stevens "Wild World"
1235z: Tom Petty "Last DJ"
1238z: Cartoon voices, sounded like Donald Duck, Yosemite Sam
1240z: "You Really Got Me", VH version
1242z: Jefferson Airplane "White Rabbit"
1244z: Billy Joel "Big Shot"
1300z: SSTV, Scottie 1, only partial copy.

SINPO - 23322, tough condx, only able to copy IDs and familiar songs.

1100z: Just barely audible here, only able to copy WBNY ID and "shortwave and internet" jingle at top of hour.

0335z: Cowboy Junkies "Sweet Jane" from Trinity Sessions album.  Guessing this is still Wolverine.  Luvvv me some Margot Timmons.
0340z: Cowboy Junkies "Common Disaster"
0353z: More Canadian chanteuses, Sarah McLachlan "Building A Mystery"

1694
Ditto here in Gopher Stomp, all Steely Dan, nice signal to the indoor fugloop.
0330z: Wolverine Radio ID and SSTV... mmm, beer.  Second SSTV is the stalking wolverine in snow.  Fuzzy due to local RFI, but good signal otherwise.

« on: April 04, 2010, 0202 UTC »
Same heard here on 6925U, instrumental of "Hold That Tiger" at 0200z.  No ID heard so far.

Just above the mud here but fairly clear at times.  (No QRM from either side audible here.)

0204z: Okay, am occasionally hearing some QRM from above 6925U, sounds like pesque jibber jabber, possibly on LSB.

0238z: SSTV w/ Wolverine Radio ID
