2/13/10, 0155 UTC, 6720 USB: Spanish speaking OM, apparently in QSO with other, only hearing one side of QSO.  Didn't sound military or maritime.  TV or radio clearly audible in background with Spanish language programming, ads, etc.

2/13/10, 0140 UTC, 6933 LSB: Unusually heavy activity, lots of overlapping Spanish language QSOs on and very slightly off 6933, sounded almost like a pileup on a ham contest weekend.

« on: February 13, 2010, 0621 UTC »
2/12/10, 1705 UTC, 5383 USB (approx - difficult to pinpoint due to BFO tuning on portable).  MARS net, NNN0 call signs.  Sounded like casual post-net chatter, some variations from usual strict protocol.

Another station I'd have missed due to local RFI, but audible while electricity was out in our neighborhood overnight.  Heard on indoor portable.
2/12/10, 1110 UTC, 8137 USB - Sounded like civilian maritime weather, live voice by English speaking OM with American accent.  Weather and sea conditions, some mention of volcanic ash?  Suddenly faded out after 1120 UTC.

« on: February 13, 2010, 0615 UTC »
I thought Galei Zahal was off air, hadn't heard 'em for several weeks.  With electricity out in my neighborhood overnight was able to copy at very low signal on indoor portable.
2/13/10, 6973 AM, 0119-0150z: Rock/pop music, woman announcer speaking Hebrew.  SINPO - 25432

North American Shortwave Pirate / Outhouse Radio 6925 AM
« on: February 13, 2010, 0611 UTC »
2/12/10, 2230-2310 UTC, 6925 AM
Several computer voice ID's for Outhouse Radio, jazzy music, Santana, the classic "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!" comedy song, Cream "Born Under A Bad Sign", others.

Heard on portable while power was out earlier today. Sounded good in AM on indoor portable with just the whip - blessedly low noise since the whole neighborhood was without power.

« on: February 13, 2010, 0610 UTC »
Wolverine Radio jussst barely audible here on 6925 USB since 0320z, heard George McCrae "Rock Your Baby", then faded out for several minutes.
0339z: Wolverine Radio ID
0347z: John Mayer "Waiting On The World To Change"
0350z: SSTV, Scottie 1, looks like test pattern, very weak and fuzzy
0352z: Second SSTV, Scottie 1, another test pattern, this one with CBC logo and Wolverine Radio logo visible through fuzz.  Will post later.

Only occasionally audible, very weak, long fades to inaudible.

Per Dr. Morbius note, this show was selected by daughter Altaira.
2/7/10

0123z: WTCR intro and ID
0125z: Joni Mitchell "Help Me"
0128z: Eurythmics "Missionary Man"
0132z: kd lang "Constant Craving" (fixed to lower case, per DimBulb's finger waggle)
0135z: Sarah McLachlan "Sweet Surrender"
0139z: WTCR YL voice ID
0140z: Stumped me on this one, and I'm trying to avoid Google-fu
0145z: Don't recognize song but sure sounds like Bonnie Raitt
0148z: Rikki Lee Jones
0152z: "Sweet Blindness", gotta be Laura Nyro
0154z: Carole King "So Far Away"
0157z: Concrete Blonde "Someday" (eargasm music!)
0201z: WTCR ID (haven't heard this voice before)
0205z: Sheryl Crow "All I Wanna Do"
0210z: Pretenders "My City Was Gone"
0215z: "I've Got To Use My Imagination", Gladys Knight?
0218z: Linda Ronstadt "You're No Good"

Deep fade after this...
0222z: Natalie Merchant "Carnival"
0227z: WTCR ID
0228z: Aretha Franklin "Respect"
0230z: Janis Joplin "Me and Bobby McGee"
0235z: Maria Muldaur "Midnight at the Oasis"

0246z: Barely audible, can tell something's there but not what.
0251z: WTCR ID, sounds like QSL info but can't quite copy all.

Niiice... tell Altaira I approve!

Between start of show and 0220z, S9 peaks, several fades to S1, good audio.  After 0220z faded to very weak but still enough to copy familiar songs.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Groundhog Day logs
« on: February 03, 2010, 0819 UTC »
Not a bad haul considering spotty midday and late afternoon no-sunspot propagation and my indoor antenna.

Punxsutawney Pothead Radio 6925 USB
Had to cheat on the ID for this one, double checking against Ragnar's Gulch webstream.  Heard positive ID via stream, not on my own receiver, but the programming I heard corresponded with this station. During brief fade ups between 2130-2153z, heard some old acoustic blues, Beatles "Day Tripper", suddenly off 2153z after song I didn't recognize.

Radio Ga-Ga
2/2/10
6925 USB
2310-2320z: "Groundhog Carols" SSTV, "Pennsylvania Polka", closing SSTV w/ a heavily armed groundhog.
SINPO - 24332, just barely above the mud

Wolverine Radio
2/3/10
6925 USB
0040-0051z: Groundhog theme country songs, didn't recognize any of 'em. Wolverine Radio ID at 0050z, followed by SSTV of that heavily armed groundhog again. Seems ominous, rodents with fully automatic weapons.  Also just barely above the mud.

Heard same here, very good signal and the computer voice ID's were very clear even with the rapidly changing speed.  Conditions went to poo after gray line/sunset passed, tho'.

Ditto, since around 1430z hearing lots of oldies on 6932 USB, Outhouse Radio ID around 1433z.  Some S8 peaks over low noise, occasional fades to S2-S3.
1459z: Outhouse ID after playing "Sleepwalk" (Santo and Johnny?)
1528z: Sudden shift to 6933.9... but still not off-frequency

Wolverine Radio cold theme. Not taking notes but have heard Hank Williams "Cold, Cold Heart", older version of "Hazy Shade of Winter", Foreigner "Cold As Ice" and, as of this writing at 0329z, "Let It Snow", sounds like Rosemary Clooney.
0332z: Stones "She's So Cold"
0350z: Springsteen "10th Avenue Freeze Out"
0359z: Some very chilly SSTV, will post later.

Not quite as strong as earlier show on 6925 but still some good peaks above the noise.

Another great theme show from Wolverine Radio: Anna Domino's "murder ballads" album with Snakefarm, Songs For My Funeral

1/30/10
6925 USB
0117z: Wolverine Radio ID and "Testing 1-2-3" by Barenekkid Wimmins.
0125z-0155z: Tracks from Snakefarm Songs For My Funeral.  Jazzy torch song version of classic "Frankie and Johnny", "John Henry", "Banks of the Ohio", "Hush-a-Bye", others.
0132z: Wolverine ID, jussst barely audible during fade
0155z: Wolverine Radio ID w/ echo/repeat fx

SINPO - 34223, good peaks, lots of fades, competing with heavy local RFI.  Good punchy audio as always from Wolverine.

North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6955U "cute monkey" loop
« on: January 29, 2010, 2312 UTC »
1/29/10
6955 USB
Since 2215z, hearing monotone male voice loop repeating something about "...found it on the internet and downloaded it... a really cute monkey..."
2258z: The "internet... cute monkey" loop still chugging along, also hearing something else in background, possibly scanner or other audio source mixed in or due to open mic.
2300z: Sounds of scanner in background along with loop, tho' this could be mixed from web stream of any of a dozen or more online scanners.

Same heard here just before top of hour (wasn't watching clock), Wild Cherry "Play That Funky Music", Rick James "Super Freak".  Pitch seemed right around 6925.1, strong and clear, audio seemed a little thin.  No ID heard.
