10/20/12, 6925 USB, 0230z: Just tuned in, heard Dire Straits "Walk of Life", op talking about hearing that song years ago and thinking lyrics were "walk on by".  Couldn't quite copy who the song request was from.
0303z: "Dust My Broom", sounds like Elmore James version
0305z: Wolverine Radio ID and three SSTV's - strong signal, but don't have MMSSTV running on this laptop.

SINPO=43333, good signal peaks, usual local RFI.

SINPO=44423.  Fair to very good via midwestern remote tuner, rollercoaster peaks and fades.
Just barely audible via the home receiver with indoor antenna.

Via midwestern web tuner, hearing KIPM relay of Legend of Tiamat two-parter.  Good signal.  Not sure who's doing the relay, announcer's voice sounds familiar, though.

9/23/12, 6930 USB, 0650z: Listening outdoors with portable, heard some blues, switched to fiddle music with Natalie MacMaster around 25 after the hour.  Grizzly Bear Shortwave ID at 0650z with email contact info.

Just fair here at home with portable, very good via western US web tuner.  SINPO 44423, very good peaks, some fades to barely audible for a few minutes at a time.  Also just barely audible via far eastern N. American web tuner (that usually gets only fair reception of any pirates).

9/23/12, 6930 USB, 0405z: John Fogerty "Centerfield", The Radical's commentary on baseball jingles, Meet the Mets jingle, Go Get 'Em Tigers.

Jussst barely audible at home, confirmed via good signal to western US web tuner.

Maybe what I'm hearing since around 2252z on 6925 - carrier and faint music.  Not quite punching through yet to copy anything.

9/16/12, 6945 AM: Asia "Heat of the Moment", RTN ID and shout-out to listener, Steve Winwood "Valerie", "One Night in Bangkok" Murray Head (with shout-out to Jerry during song).

Just a carrier here at home on the indoor antenna, good via southwestern US web tuner.

0640z: Tried outdoors with portable, just barely audible, heard a bit of Greg Kihn Band "Our Love's In Jeopardy"

Equipment / Re: how can i in-hanse my long wire performance
« on: September 08, 2012, 0919 UTC »
As an alternative to fishing sinkers, I use small white pill bottles made of HDPE - the kind over the counter analgesics come in.  They're flexible enough to resist cracking.  Fill 'em with coffee, sugar or sand.  Snug a fishing line around the neck and I sling 'em over our trees with handheld fishing line, bolo style.  Our trees are only 20'-30' tall so it's easy.  If I miss, the plastic pill bottles won't break anything.

Fascinating stuff!  If my recordings were of Asian comms rather than Brazil that's encouraging - perhaps propagation to my area isn't quite as bad as I'd assumed.  Thanks for all the research and tips, folks.  This has been one of the more interesting radio oddities I've ever heard.
