Heard that via the home receiver as well, so could be from Mexico or the Gulf, since those signals come in well here even with a portable.

I may have caught the tail end of this, heard Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit" around 0140z near 6964 kHz, lots of QRM from pesque jibber jabber.

Oops!  Forgot to specify this catch was via a Maryland-based SDR web tuner, not on my own home receiver in Texas.

Shortwave Broadcast / WBCQ 5110 Area 51

6/23/12, 2330z, 5110 AM: Timtron show, followed at 0001z by what sounded like WBNY relay - confusing program due to heavy echo/reverb and strong QRM from utility/data signal just below 5110.  Something about "I'm Commander Bunny" and "pirate whore of 2011"?  Only material I could ID clearly was opening with Collective Soul "Heaven Let Your Light Shine Down" and Doors "Roadhouse", with WBNY ID and QSL offer.  "You're listening to the Commander Bunny pirate whore of 2011 victory show"?  "Commander Bunny... crybaby power... gone completely insane... no original programs..."
0027z: Lumpy Gravy show, much more intelligible than 0001-0026z program.  Signal or propagation seemed to improve.

Unfortunately QRM from a powerful utility/data signal just below 5110 kHz makes clear copy very difficult.  It interferes with AM sync and ECSS lock, so the only way to listen without interference is in USB.

6/23/12, 2330z: Heard some of this on 6950 AM, including followup relay on 5110 WBCQ at 0001z.  Sounded like WBNY but very difficult copy due to echo/reverb and, on 5110, utility QRM. "Commander Bunny... crybaby power... gone completely insane... no original programs..."  Hoping someone has a better recording of this, not sure I'm hearing any of this right.

6/18/12, 6925 USB, 0230z: Just tuned in, heard TCS Relay Network ID and "Baseball!".  Verrry dramatic reading of "Casey at the Bat", sounds like Borlis Karloff reading, tough copy through fades and local noise.  Springsteen "Glory Days".
0243z: Abbott and Costello "Who's On First" routine.  I dunno.  Third base.
0247z: Song about Ty Cobb.
0250z: "Joltin' Joe DiMaggio", Les Brown & His Band of Reno w/ Betty Jane Bonney
0252z: "You are tuned to the TCS Shortwave Relay Network" ID
0300z: John Fogarty "Centerfield", "Go get 'em, Tigers", other stuff.
0307z: Ol' lady sez someone is being "too darned sexually explicit"
0315z: Meatloaf "Pair of Dice by the Dashboard Light".  Pair of Guys.  Pair of Eyes.  Pero Dies.  Something like that.
0323z: Commander Bunny endorses the Free Radio Cafe? The late, great Rodney King was right - We really can all just get along. :o
0329z: Sign-off ID, Quint, Ramones "We Want the Airwaves", Jack Webb, Cary Grant
SINPO=43323, signal peaks up to S9 via indoor antenna, but fades to S1.

6/14/12, 6925 USB, 0220z: Ditto, a couple of Lynyrd Skynyrd songs - "Working For MCA" and "Ballad of Curtis Lowe" - then off or signal dropped without ID.  Good enough signal to copy at home via the indoor antenna nearly as well as the eastern SDR.

727
6/14/12, 6925 USB: Same heard via eastern US SDR, lots of Bob Dylan tunes, ID sounded like Rave On Radio around 0123z but tough copy through heavy ute QRM.  Not a peep at home via the indoor antennas, but lately haven't heard anything other than WWCR on 6875 and the usual utes, local pesques and regional MARS net on 6903.5 USB.
0134z: It's awright ma, I'm just DXing...

Probably WGOE in Virginia, somewhere around 1590 or 1600 AM, early 1970s when I was visiting relatives in that area.  At least I think it was a pirate.  Sounded scurrilous enough.   :o

Bob Welch was a very underrated musician, with Fleetwood Mac and afterward, but despite monster hits with "Sentimental Lady" and "Ebony Eyes" his solo success didn't seem to lead to the same lasting legacy as others who hit it big during the 1970s-'80s.  His solo work with the Paris project wasn't commercially successful but yielded some nifty space funk like "Big Towne 2061".

Also, his '80s SoCal vibe was sooo cool with Stevie Nicks in this '81 live version of "Ebony Eyes".

Reportedly he was suffering from debilitating pain due to rheumatoid arthritis.  Welch had struggled with and kicked heroin addiction a few decades ago.  I've watched family members and friends go through that type of chronic pain and can understand why someone might choose another path.

6/8/12, 6925 USB, 0253z: Heard Roxy Music "Love Is The Drug", then off or faded.

731
Yeah, the original "She had freckles on her, but she's nice" would probably better suit the, umm... handsome Earhart.  For whatever reason, the older folks I heard singing that song when I was a kid always substituted "pretty" for "nice."

Same heard here, loud and clear, Boston "More Than A Feeling" and what sounded like one side of a QSO.

6/3/12, 6930 USB, 0310z: Just tuned in, caught some music, radio or TV ad, WPOD "White Punks On Dope" ID, more music.
0317z: Tubes "White Punks On Dope"
0324z: WPOD sign-off ID
0325z: Mebbe still running, some tune-up tweep sounds, more music.
0330z: Yup, WPOD ID, still running.  Some version of "Video Killed the Radio Star", not sure if Buggles or other.
0335z: Wall of Voodoo "Mexican Radio"
0347z: Sounded like a live on mic ID and some background chorus from friends of WPOD.

Thanks for the show!

6/3/12, 6950 USB, 0200z: Same heard here, "Testing 1-2-3" into, Wolverine Radio ID, John Lee Hooker "Crawlin' King Snake", Elvis "Hound Dog", Chuck Berry "Too Much Monkey Botheration", Everly Bros "Bird Dog", original version of "Rockin' Robin" (Bobby Day?)
0227z: Doors "Twentieth Century Fox", T-Rex?, Stones "Monkey Man"
0244z: America "Muskrat Love", them dead skunks stinkin' up the road, Loudon Wainwright 3.
0300z: B-52s.  Look out, Steve Irwin, here comes a sting ray!
Good signal fighting through heavy local RFI.
