HF Mystery Signals / Re: Data transmission 4.997 to 5.005 MHz
« on: April 02, 2020, 1847 UTC »
The signal was still present at 1830 UTC, same spread of 4997 to 5005 kHz. I tuned in very strong signals via KiwiSDRs located around the Northeast, with only a very weak signal in other areas of North America.

General Radio Discussion / Re: COVID Watch Net

Question: Do you know if this will be an ongoing net for the foreseeable future?

Why not play your IQ recording through a virtual audio device, record as a WAV or mp3 file, and post a link to that. Then we can all listen  :)

Yes, Audacity is a free, open source audio program. I use it to record things off of my computer all the time. I agree that the OP would get a much better response by providing a .wav or .mp3 file.

Amateur Radio / Re: HF activity is on the rise
« on: March 17, 2020, 1215 UTC »
I monitor the 40m band on most days. Over the past week, I've noticed a huge increase in voice/phone activity there. Listening in on a few of the conversations, I mostly heard people discussing the coronavirus. I'm assuming that the increase is due to more and more people being home in quarantine.

I'm a regular listener - guy has interesting musical tastes, and finds some unique stuff. I believe it's also on 7780 and 9395 because WRMI is using it to fill empty time slots.

Yeah, I was really happy to hear just how diverse his playlist was, and to hear multiple cool songs that I've never heard before. And also yeah, the 7780/9395 frequencies are backup for 5850 kHz.

I'm going to be a regular listener and I hope everyone who loves shortwave will encourage and support this show. As we all know, stuff like this is rapidly disappearing from the airwaves.

Everyone here likely already knows about this, but I just discovered it last night, and a quick search on here didn't find any threads about it, so...

Every Wednesday night at 9:00 pm EST / 6:00 PM PST / 0200 UTC, on 5850 kHz, This Is A Music Show broadcasts a variety of great music, all locally sourced vinyl from area thrift stores (a really nice touch, I think).

At the end of the hour, two MFSK64 transmissions for text and digital images were sent out, with a finale of a digital image on the waterfall at show's end. I recorded a a decode of the MFSK64 image decode.

Software / Re: Transmitting WEFAX images with FLDIGI

I hope I'm not violating etiquette here by bumping an old thread, but I came across this one when looking into WEFAX myself, and thought I would share the solution I found. The timeout setting of interest is in UI->General, not UI->Browser:

Seems to work for me.

Fishbreath, you are awesome. Thank you for replying to this post with this information. I had all but given up on any solution.

HF Mystery Signals / Re: UNID "Time Signal" at 7475 in AM mode
« on: December 26, 2019, 1929 UTC »
Anyone else want to give it a go?

~KM0NAS

I tried multiple TDoAs but my results were all over the place, so I am not going to bother posting screenshots of my efforts. But, I really appreciate your help with this signal. It has had me puzzled for about a week now. I've been trading messages with a person on Reddit, who alerted me to the presence of the signal. Here is a link to the Reddit thread if you want to read what others have been speculating about it.

HF Mystery Signals / Re: All 1 PPS pip / pulse / tick logs here please
« on: December 26, 2019, 1622 UTC »
I'm not sure if it is the same signal that has been discussed in this thread, but I recently recorded a mystery "time signal" at 7475 kHz in AM mode.

No, this is not the signal being discussed in this thread.  The signal here is short pulses, like CW dits once per second, not a carrier with ticks on it.

T!

Thanks for the response. Anyone have any idea what the 7475 kHz signal I recorded might be?

A very interesting - even intriguing, report. Any chance you have a recording of this?
