General Radio Discussion / 2013 PRA prelim thanks
« on: January 27, 2013, 1929 UTC »
Hi all,
First of all, I thought I'd thank Pirate Radio Boston & Mysterious Mystic Radio for writing and sending programs so that I can do better entries and have studio-quality audio for the 2013 PRA CD. If any other stations want to do the same, that would be great. If not, I'll soon be e-mailing stations with entry info, etc. The station e-mails will probably start going out in the next week or two (but I've still got a lot of entries to finish, so it'll be a while until they're all out).

I've been writing a lot over the past month, getting audio files together, and trying to reduce my learning curves on InDesign & a newer edition of Photoshop. We'll see when I'm closer to having it ready for the printer...

Thanks!
Andrew

Station on & off with test counts & trying to eliminate distortion in audio. Nice signal, but some "rippling" distortion. Not sure if it's RF feedback or something else. Am recording it if op's interested in how it sounds here.

General Radio Discussion / 3220 kHz
« on: January 15, 2013, 0451 UTC »
Working on the Pirate Radio Annual tonight & I came across some loggings of stations on 3220 kHz (presumably all harmonics of 1610 pirates or Part-15 stations, such as logs by Joe Farley, N8Hensley, and Kilocat7. Just wondered if anyone was still hearing these or actively tuning 3200-3420 kHz looking for these harmonics?

Interesting stuff.

Have a great night!

My 1st pirate of 2013 & finally my 1st time to hear WPOD! Fair sig. Thought I heard an ad for Job Rolling Papers at tune in, then heard a clear ID by a computer woman voice, into a song. Also heard Chambers Brothers "Time." Just listening without headphones, I could ID anything else, but I could probably pick out a few more details if I went back over the recording.
Thanks for the show!

Nice S6 signal this morning with lots of techno dance music. After about 15 min, male announcer came on with hi to everyone, etc.
Thanks for the show!

This is a regular net, but I haven't seen any logs of it lately, but I thought I'd mention it with the increased activity around the holidays & pirates looking for clear frequencies. All of the ops are clearly audible here

Instrumental techno with nice S6/S7 signal. Very wide sig, splattering over XFM on 6945. Audio sounds great, though.

I've been listening for close to 15 min, but no IDs. Had a strong het on the freq at 0457.
Clear Liquid Radio ID at 0500. Surprised to hear it with such a strong signal!

Thanks for the show!

Shortwave Pirate / XYZ SSTV 6925 11/24/12
« on: November 24, 2012, 1622 UTC »
While I was away for Thanksgiving, I left the receiver on & had two SSTV images from XYZ on my computer when I returned home last night. One said Happy ------- de XYZ" and the other was simply "XYZ." I didn't see that anyone else had logged this one, so I felt I should post it. No idea if any programming went along with the images. I think the timestamp on the one was 0245, but the clock on my recording computer doesn't keep time. I guess this is the same station that was last on with digital modes on 1/18/09?

Thanks!

« on: November 08, 2012, 2317 UTC »
My clock is off on my recording computer, so I'm not quite sure what time this came thru, but it was a single SSTV image for "----- USA, the 11 meter gorilla." DEcent copy, white on a black background with an image of a gorilla. Pretty interesting--had to doublecheck that I hadn't left the radio on 27700 kHz  :)

Thanks for the image...

Instrumental guitar music, gruff-sounding announcer with IDs and "...how else can you explain the power of my mind?" Muffled audio. Sig started strong, then deep fade.

Thanks for the show!

Someone weak here with OM vocals that sound at least somewhat like Tom Jones...
Please ID. I'm recording it, in case the signal picks up a bit later.
Thanks for the show!
