I guess KVR doesn't QSL, but I haven't logged the station before, so I thought I'd belatedly let the op know that the signal was VG here. Thanks for the show! Andrew

I was tuning around, looking for SWBC stations above 75m and found this station playing movie audio from "The Hunt for Red October" & possibly some other stuff. Strong signal; surprised to run into a pirate here.

General Radio Discussion / Re: HV Short of RFM Passes Away

Wow, really sorry to hear this. I only met him briefly at a hamfest about 20 years ago, but I talked to him on the phone a few times & was in contact a lot in the late '80s & early '90s. I e-mailed him in the past year & he said "How many years has it been for us? Gads, I'll be 80 on my next birthday!! Where has the time gone?"

And his last words to me were "Remember, broadcast laws are for dogs!"

Pretty good signal here, but some local noise is making clear reception a bit difficult. "I saw him raise his right hand and make a stabbing motion." I couldn't quite copy enough info to figure out which show this was. Hopefully, the local noise will disappear soon & give me a chance to hear it better later.

Thanks for the show; nice to hear again.

Newport Pirate Radio, 87.9 with DJ Dig-It and special guest, DJ Archie (although I only heard one person on the air). Announcer sometimes talking slowly over and in with instrumental music (as I've heard at times on FM pirates and college stations). Variety of jazz, funk, & disco + a few other things. Louis Armstrong "Jeepers Creepers," Jim Croce "Operator," Village People "In the Navy," Nena "99 Red Balloons" (German version), etc. Some periods of dead air, but sounds more like audio-to-transmitter going out because DJ doesn't mention tech problems. Nice surprise!

General Radio Discussion / Re: Pirate Radio Annual - Correction
« on: August 18, 2016, 1156 UTC »

Thanks for taking the time to point out the mistake. For anyone who wants check it, the exact wording is:

Canada was a hotbed of shortwave pirate activity in the '80s and '90s, but Radio True North and the Northern Relay Service are two of the only stations over the past five years to announce a location North of the border. In fact, it sometimes calls itself "Canadian Radio after Dark."

Something is missing here. I'm not sure if I accidentally deleted it, never typed it, or if something got moved without everything being fixed. The intention was to point out two other stations announcing a Canadian location & say that this new station steps it up a notch by sometimes calling itself "Canadian Radio after Dark."

Sorry to all for the error.

Thanks for the comments & orders! I received the boxes of books and I've been busy burning CDs, printing labels, & packing. I think I'll get all of the orders out tomorrow

The 2015-16 Pirate Radio Annual is now nearly finished and I'm taking advance orders for copies of the book. I've had the CD ready for a while now (although I need to start burning copies). I started laying out the PRA about a month ago, then realized last week that my column margins were too narrow, so I re-set it. Just finished the cover tonight and the files are going to the printer tomorrow. From there, the finished books should be ready in 4-6 weeks.

In case you are wondering what the Pirate Radio Annual is, it's a paperback book with an 5.5" x 8.5" trim size. This is the 6th edition. Each are divided into two parts: the first is pirate radio "articles" and the second part of the book is a listing of entries on North American shortwave pirate stations that were reported in the past year (and also European pirates that were reported in a large portion of North America). The book contains images from dozens of stations + contact information, URLs of websites, etc. Because this year's edition is running long, I cut back on the "articles" in this year's edition . . . WGM: World's Greatest Mistake and the updates for next two Global HF Pirate weekends.

This year's edition is 230 pages (34 pages longer than the last edition) and contains an audio CD-R with sample tracks of audio from pirates from the past year. 92 different stations (up 20 from last year) are represented on the CD....although the recording is on a CD-R, it is an audio CD that can be played in standard CD players, computers, etc. BTW, after creating hundreds of these CDs, I heard from one reader that the CD wouldn't fit properly in his slot-loading Mac computer. If you want to use it in one of these computers or device with a narrow slot, let me know and I can send your CD without a label.
If you want an advance copy, the price until August 7 is $16 + $3 shipping ($19) to the United States. I'm not yet sure if the extra 34 pages will affect the shipping cost to the rest of the world. I should probably wait until the copies arrive so that I can check the shipping cost/weight to Europe/Australia/Canada/etc., rather than guessing and posting an amount that's totally inaccurate, so I appreciate your patience while I get it figured out.

Also, I found a less-expensive printer for this edition. When I was offering advance copies at the Winterfest, I thought it'd be more expensive than it wound up being. So, if you advance ordered at the Winterfest, I'll be returning $1 with your copy.

You can either send a check or money order in US funds to:
Cabinet Communications
PO Box 109
Blue Ridge Summit, PA 17214

or  you can send the $ via PayPal to info /at/ hobbybroadcasting.com

Just tuned in at 1519 & despite having both the dishwasher & dryer running, could clearly hear Survivor "Eye of the Tiger"

Thanks for the show!

General Radio Discussion / Radio DMT/rdla4 SSTV?
« on: May 22, 2016, 2001 UTC »
I think this is the last of these types of Qs from me for this year, but I found rdla4's SSTV download of Radio DMT. I noticed that rdla4 isn't a member anymore, so I'm not sure that he'll even read this. And I'm not sure that Radio DMT is around, either. I'll use art for Radio DMT if I can either get permission from rdla4 or an SSTV decode from someone else. Thanks again!

General Radio Discussion / Radio Broadcaster SSTV/Token
« on: May 22, 2016, 1947 UTC »
Sorry to post a personal message here, but I'm finally getting the Pirate Radio Annual set up. I found Token's SSTV image of Radio Broadcaster. So, the Q is, if Token reads this, could I have your permission to reprint the SSTV in the upcoming PRA?

Thanks much!
Andrew

Fair signal here with big band music. Haven't heard an ID yet, but hopefully they'll be as strong as the music

Ditto. Tuned in during "Oh Canada," which was under strong pescador QRM

My reception was a lot like Joe's, but I had a clear ID on a peak
