I heard a guy in the AM window on 40 meters absolutely savaging Baxter on hearing of his death a couple of weeks back. He called Baxter everything but a human being.

Baxter could be a pain in the ass, but there was a reasoning behind his actions. I hear the guy who was knocking him on 40 and 75 everyday, and he never complains about the general chaos that rules on 75/80. He has no problems with cranking the power to run off SSB ops daring to operate near "his" frequency either.

Wayne Green would be proud of you, Chris. He loved those things.

BTW, the first time I saw an article on the horizontal loop you swear by was in "73 Magazine" entitled "What's The Scoop On The 'Lazy Loop'?" Wayne was decades ahead of his time in showing people how to piss off their neighbors with weird antennas.

Good! Back to hat liners. Has anyone tried cutting down survival blankets to fit? You could do several caps and hats with one blanket.

Who knew he had Eddie Cantor in him?

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Bougainville & PNG

Cool beans! It may be time to reconstruct the low band loop that used to serve me well for the PNG stations. Now if I can only remember the specs I used when I designed it?

Greyline props on PNG's always amazed me on the thing. Get it on the right heading and they start rolling in about first light, peaking after about 20 minutes, then fade away over the next 20.

I once got Bangla Betar coming over the pole on 60 meters with it after months of trying. I still consider that my best HF DX catch.

Badgers on mushrooms. It damn near gave me a seizure!

When you make dead guy jokes you've got to consider the reputation of the man along with the timing, Chanter. Posting a joke about Ailes going to Hell and using his skills to help Satan and Franco wouldn't have the same punch if I'd waited until he was in the ground.

God, I need new glasses! I thought the title read "Van Alien Probes"?

Interesting article, Chris.

People are dying today that never died before. Like poor old Roger Ailes. I heard Satan and Franco were waiting for him at the gates of Hell. They figure if he could get Nixon elected in 1968, it would be a cinch for him to get them out of their predicaments.

Lots of vintage tools and signs, along with vintage radios on display on the walls and shelves in the dining rooms. I like their burgers. The rest of their food is o.k., but I can similar stuff of better quality and at cheaper prices at local Mom and Pop's type places. The entrance and checkout area is an entire room full of products that are hard to find and general tourist stuff. I started stopping at them as they had an exchange library between their stores of books on tape. It was great for long trips. You could listen to the book for a small fee and drop it off at the next convenient one when you were done. I think they still do it via CD these days?

BTW, you can buy a coonskin cap, they've got 'em, don it, and belt out the theme song to "Davy Crockett" on your way home.

I do like the "Drink Yoo-Hoo" and "See Rock City" signs. The last one was so common when I was kid, when people would later ask me what "my sign" was, I'd tell them "See Rock City".

Traveling America before the interstates were everywhere was an adventure-land of tourist traps and oddball sights.

Suicide or O.D.? Apparently they've been touring. A lot of ex-junkies decide to take a taste after years of abstinence and that's all it takes. Lack of tolerance makes what used to be a low to moderate dose for them deadly.

Ask a question about a god-man's preferred cap lining, and people get upset. Sheesh!

I didn't know you were Russkie, Josh? I've long suspected you were the son of Al Fansome and Svetlana Putin. Now the truth comes out.

You can't beat Aldi's price on eggs and "Baby Bella" aka Porcini mushrooms although you have to use the latter fast as they go bad quickly. Stop by the dairy dept. for the cheese of your choice, grab a ham steak, and you're eating omelets for a week or more.

Al, weren't you working as a wrecker along that coast in those days? Did you have the the goats out with lanterns around necks walking along the dunes and hills to imitate fishing boats working inshore that night? I've often wondered where you got those big naval guns in the front yard we used to blast passing pods of whales.

4035
Nope, but I've heard bits of it, too. I was wondering if it might be one of the Florida pirates I've read about? Extremely weak even on good nights, here.
