I used to hear them regularly early in the morning just before dawn knocking around. There was another station in Tennessee they would sometimes have to battle it out with as the sun came up, but I never got firm id on it. Just bits of general news and mentions of UT sports which means it could have been anywhere from Johnson City to Memphis.

Yep. Screaming out "Be Bop A Lula" and "You Really Got Me" in adjacent baths not knowing who each other was. Sting played the Ace, the Mod King who was really a bellhop.

The album was a little ahead of it's time when it came out. It was so geared around the Mod/Rocker thing, that a lot of the American audience couldn't really grasp it. When the movie came out several years later the album blew through the roof, with several tunes from the album getting heavy rotation on AOR stations around the country. It gave a Mod Revival started by the Jam in '76/'77 in the UK a huge kick in the pants on both sides of the Atlantic. The Mod scene in the States took some of it's deepest roots in San Diego for some odd reason? A lot of very late 70's "New Wave" had that Mod Power Pop sound, the Romantics and The Knack being prime examples here, with the great Joe Jackson's first couple of albums on the other side along with the Purple Hearts.  Joe Jackson, IMO, is a forgotten man who should be played on every radio station, what a friggin' talent!

Check out the soundtrack to the movie if you can find it. Mods loved that Stax and Motown Soul sound. When I first saw an article in the old Trouser Press talking about Northern Soul circa 1980, I thought "What the Hell are they talking about? That stuff was recorded in Alabama." Northern Soul meant Detroit, Philly, NYC and Chicago here. Who knew they were talking about what people liked in Northern England? At least they got Detroit right.

Do any of you guys remember Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley having a debate on the "Dick Cavett Show"? Buckley relied on a upper class sheen to brass it out it tough spots, but Vidal came from older, more established, prestigious families. Buckley's game didn't work with him when trying to use it to make points in their snob-off.

In short order, Vidal, being his usually snarky self, is running circles around the guy, blowing Buckley's carefully cultivated image on national TV. Buckley's ego can't take it. He's being taken apart by an openly gay man on national TV, a very rare sight at that time. Finally Buckley blows, using some very low class epithets about Vidal's sexuality and is gone. I wasn't much more than a kid, and clearly remember thinking, "Has that guy never played the dozens? When you throw q**** , you lose." They bleeped it out, but it was clear what was said. It was a while before Bill made it back on national TV.

Later in life I found out Buckley and his brother had been taught by tutors until they were nearly in their teens. No wonder he didn't know the rules.

I'm not gonna tell you how long it's been since I saw that video, but I had the album about a year.

I was in a bar ages ago, '80-'81 maybe, and there are some Brits in there. One of them kept coming over trying to hit on my girlfriend every time I went to p!ss or get a drink. I finally had enough and said "You really need to back off." He comes back with "F-U, suedehead!" and stepped towards me. I laid that boy out. His friends start heading over and I'm thinking I'm going to have to fight all of them? Nah, they were just coming to get him.

One of them said, "We were wondering when that was going to happen. He's always causing trouble when he's p!ssed. What did he say to you?" I said, "He called me suedehead. I don't know what in the Hell that means but I'm not takin' it off that p!ss-ant." The guy laughed and explained it to me. I remember thinking,"Well I'll be damned, I am suedehead!"

I wore my hair like that because I'd seen Suggsy and couple of other guys from Madness and the Specials in a bit roles in "Quadrophenia" at a midnight movie a few months earlier and liked the retro look. I didn't know it was connected to anything after 20 years? The English and their damned fashion tribes! It's gonna get 'em killed one of these days. And me a dyed in the wool Norton man. I'd have rather been shot than seen on a Vespa.

Sorry to have jumped you. I've watched the man from the late 70's. He's gone from a con man to what I consider a traitor. I don't have much use for him.

My wife heard me cussing a guy on the phone yesterday. She said "What the heck was that all about?" I said "Some guy trying to get me to vote for Trump."

I'm not fond of Hillybob, but since Lyndon LaRouche has called it quits, my normal "no one" vote is gone. Where's Alf Landon when he's needed?

Tell him Al has penguins armed and aimed at his stern.

I think it's completely coincidental, but over the years when I've heard them playing music it's often from the early fall to around early January. I'd say it's due to it being prime pirate season and me listening more at that time of year.

RIP Oh, Great Prince!  His "Ten Commandments of Man" is still one of the funniest things I ever heard. Not exactly PC by today's standards but then it wasn't by the standards of his day either.

So, thanks to Stretchypants, I think I understand that this transmitter can only go up to 10w PEP.  Jerry was trying to modulate it at full power (10W carrier) and then shoving audio down its throat with a 100W audio amp.  But I guess he should be modulating a 2.5W carrier and then shove audio down its throat so it has room to go up to 10W on the peaks.  2.5x4=10
Is this correct?

Hey, the Trumpkin's hands might be small, but he's got proven fecundity.  And he doesn't do drugs/alcohol either.
And Putkin is just trying to get by in the world. Its the elites that are keeping Putin down from an honest shot at his sphere of influence on the elite's turf.  The mass media is out to get Putin the same way they are out to get Trump.  In Russia its illegal to advertise during children's cartoons!  Who's evil now, eh?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h7GILsLzV0

LOL! It's not fecundity when you've got to go get it frozen from the bank to do the job. And using little blue pills doesn't count.

BTW, I hear the term "the elite" all the time, there are many elites ranging from villages to countries to multinational corporations, religions, etc...  Who is this particular elite? Is it the elite of Possum Trot, KY., a very real place, that's keeping these two men down? Or is it someone or something else? Just who are they?

Mr. Trump is billionaire and has corporate interests around the world. Putin is very likely the richest man in the world, controls the media of an entire country, has the Russian opposition killed both at home and abroad, engages in active disinformation campaigns worldwide, and has a massive nuclear arsenal. I hate to tell you this, but on the national and multinational level, those two are very much part of "the elite" any way you cut it. Vlad sits at the big table for tinhorn dictators, such Little Kim, while Don is at the other end of the room hanging with Monty Burns.

It sickens me to hear a Presidential candidate of a major party praise a man like Putin. A man who with his annexations of parts of Georgia and the Ukraine single-handily reignited the Cold War due to a twisted version of a greater Russia, while showing unprovoked bellicosity to my own country. Trump's comments praising Putin make him a Quisling at best and a traitor to his own country at worst. We put the curs of Putin's type down 27 years ago, why elect a man who gladly let them up to do it all again?

BTW, do you think Trump sings, "My Heart Belongs to Vlady" in the shower? Perhaps while planning the Great Wall of Mexico?

Gentlemen such as myself and my dear friend Al Fansome never lower ourselves to argue in such a vulgar manner. You all should be ashamed. Have our years as shining examples of virtue and civility gone for naught?

I lay the blame for this directly in the tiny hands of Putin's Great Pumpkin, Donald Trump.

Wasn't there something in the news about him a while back involving a dependence on prescription drugs?

Let this be a warning. Stay away from the Nasacort, Al, it will get you every time.
