I heard that as I was eating breakfast this morning. 96 is a nice long run. RIP Don.

I was listening to 6771 Saturday evening. OTR was weak, but there. However, so was a warble jammer.

3205 should be better for them, just for the mere fact it's away from international air bands.

Don't they fly in West Virginia, carrying away young livestock and children?

That frequency could be trouble. The hurricane nets in the Southeast USA occupy that 6913 to 6918 chunk of frequencies this time of year.

I'd stay away that frequency until hurricane season is over.

I remember him. I want to say he died a few years back, but I'm not sure.

It was a labor of love for the guy. He did it for years and never received anything for it, except for the occasional  donations he used to maintain/upgrade his equipment One of the radio mags interviewed him in the 90's.

He was able to operate both in the Pacific and Atlantic.

This sounds a lot like what I was hearing there about a month ago. Monster carrier and a 1000 khz. audio tone. Lasted all of five minutes and it was gone.

Ulx, I've been worried about you for months. It's nice to know you're still out there

General Radio Discussion / Re: Al, what have you become?

Dahmer vs. Gacy, eh? You know darned well I don't share your enthusiasm for pro wrestling.

I checked Ebay today, roughly one in seven radios is missing some or all of it's knobs. Get help, Al.

General Radio Discussion / Al, what have you become?
« on: August 06, 2014, 1441 UTC »
I was reading Andy Yoder's blog last night. He recently bought three antique radios. Their wasn't a knob to be found on them.

What I found particularly odd, from perusing police and press reports, is missing radio knobs have become common in your old environs. It's even happened to me. I came home roughly four months ago to find the passband knob for my Drake R-4 gone and a sour, moldy odor in the room.

Get help, Al, before we have to do another intervention.

Just when he disappears, you have to poke him with a stick, Chris.

Equipment / Re: Sky loop...height vs diameter
« on: August 03, 2014, 0626 UTC »
'73 Magazine ran an in depth article in the late 90's called , "What's The Scoop on The Lazy Loop?" on full wavelength horizontal NVIS loops. As Chris said, the bottom frequency seems to be the key with the things. According to the author, if you could get up to about 1/8 of a wavelength for the bottom frequency the thing was an exceptional performer for receiving and transmitting up to about 15 meters.

Seems to me the guy used a tuner, as he was testing it for ham work.

I've heard faint piano music/talk occasionally in the 6970 range since the 90's, Chris. Normally it shows up about sunset.

The Asian aspect is something I never considered. I do start hearing CRI's West Coast oriented broadcasts on 6850 in the late summer/early fall.

Don't sweat it FF.

Ole, that's some nice stuff you posted. The beginner stuff is priced right and the plug and play reasonable.

BTW, I'd wondered where the suppliers for Elecraft disappeared to. Thanks for the info.
