My great Aunt and Uncle lived a couple of miles from the National Radio Observatory in Greenbank, WV. The entire valley is about 3000 feet up, with the ridges around it about 1500 - 1800 feet higher. They have hard winters due to the elevation.

The observatory requires a radio/tv dark zone of over 200 square miles. About twenty five years ago they started getting random on and off interference during the winter, usually during the coldest days/nights of winter.

It took the Feds over two years to run down the source. An electric blanket in a dog house with a second rate timer. The folks at the observatory shelled out a few bucks, they bought the lady a heavily insulated dogloo for the pup. No more interference.

General Radio Discussion / Al, about your railgun......

Does it have the range to rain flaming potbellied pigs into the Crimea?

The Muslim population would run for their lives at the sight of flaming swine falling from the sky. The Russian soldiers, who've never had a decent meal in their lives, will be going tooth and nail at each other over who gets dibs on all the pulled pork created by the barrage.

If your gun won't handle pigs, Spam or Treet, should work.

The music bed sounded like a loop of the intro to Devo's "Whip It."

This was another getting hammered by a ute. I could barely hear when it would come up above the noise.

I had the fisherman in LSB, the music station in USB, and a strong data station about 2 khz. up. It sounded like the Titanic hitting the iceberg.

Did I hear Jay say in that final interview that Kracker liked to call late at night to attempt to indulge in phone sex with him? Ain't that a kick in the head?

Jack Boggan and Jay in the same broadcast. I found myself waiting for Jimmy the Weasel to put in appearance.

Nice signal, but the audio bandwidth was a little narrow. S-9 and solid copy.

Great show and production values.

Don't let it get you down, Al. After all, Zamfir still survives.

They come and they go. Late fall through early spring seems to be their preference for that lil' slice of frequencies. However, after the 9/11 attacks they were on constantly for about a year and a half. It's why we pirates moved down to 6925. No use in pissing off more than one govt. agency at a time. Especially when they have the power to send you on a free multi-year vacation to lovely Guantanamo Bay.

Any mention of what other frequencies he's using in your google search?

I heard him on the 31 meter broadcast band a couple of months back. My reaction was "Just another jackleg preacher." and tuned on past him. I didn't realize he was a pirate until Chris S. posted about the station.

Knowing those 20 meter boys, the fights with the guy would be worth the listen.

You're starting to see the light.

Did you happen to notice that the solar flare erupted just before Putin's war games? It wasn't coincidence, it was Fansome.

Years ago I was on Euro-Pirate website and ran into a guy in the Canaries who wanted to set up a SW pirate op there. I told him I thought it would be an excellent location to hit both Europe and North America. We exchanged a couple of PM's and he dropped out of sight.

I doubt if it's the same guy, and it may be a hoax, but I'd give my left testicle to be able to tx from the cliffs of Tenerife.

I told Fansome not to fire those Diet Coke and Mentos rockets at the Sun, but would he listen? Noooo. He started using the rockets to fire pallets of refried beans at it. He said he was "reactivating the sunspot cycle."

Now he's building a rail gun out of old stove pipes. God only knows what he's going to do with that.

I heard AWR's "Wavescan" program last night. Their Australian correspondent brought the VoM situation up. He has sent them a couple of emails they haven't responded to, but noted they have been heard on and off in Oz in the past couple of months.

Poor country, hard winters, constant high winds...... my guess is it's antenna issue.

I've been telling people for years cell phones are nothing but glorified walkie-talkies. ;)

That app played a big role early in its existence in Egypt when Mubarak's security forces shut down internet access.
