What moof said. If thirty feet works w/o a lot of noise pick-up, take it out to 50 or 60 feet. Try a 9:1 Unun at the window end of the long wire. They can clean up a lot of stray noise before it gets to your receiver.

One of the big problems in suburban neighborhoods is the electronics your neighbors have that kick out noise. I had a strange 12 hour on - 12 hour off QRM problem about 15 years ago. It stopped when the cops took one of the neighbors away for having an indoor weed grow. (It also explained why he was always running into stuff trying to back down his driveway.)

I miss ol' Bong Boy. Every day was adventure with him on the block.

Well you do scare the neighborhood kids when you get stuck in there. They come knocking on my door, saying "Mr. Martin, Mr. Martin, there's a burrow owl in the dumpster!" I tell 'em "Burrow owls don't live in dumpsters, they live in a hole in the ground. Why do you think they call them 'burrow owls'?"

Then I tell their leader, a kid named Stuart, "Old Man Fansome must be stuck in the dumpster again. Throw my pet badger in the dumpster, he'll get him out." You know Stuart, he's that good kid,not like the other folks in the trailer park.

I guess since A&M bolted for the SEC, Victory Radio now celebrates beating Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

It ain't quite the same.

Sounds like you've got an enema enigma, Sport. Try a dose of salts instead.

Plastic Jesus stays on the dashboard of my car, as God intended.

Sideburn, you're not another Son of Fansome, are you? Don't listen to that dog of his, it can get you in all sorts of trouble. Most of us are sure it ate Captain Ron.

It must be going over me.

Insomniac, Kuwait generally has a killer signal on the higher bands.

I was playing around with homemade ATU this past Monday and heard this one. I didn't realize it was a pirate. My reaction was "Great. Another Preacher on shortwave."

I found that tuning down to 9773-74 and using the narrow AM filter on the Sangean 909 I was using to test the ATU  with seemed to improve the copy on this one. The antenna was about 20 feet of bell wire strung around the room.

This one would be an easy catch w/o the adjacent interference.

There you are. I thought you had gotten stuck in the dumpster again.

Must be that coot from Norfolk. He's been stalking Alex for years. Unrequited love can make a fella crazy.

Did the Space Brothers hiding behind Comet Ison take him or has he fallen in the dumpster again?

It pops up from time to time. I liked 6950 as a frequency about a decade or so ago, but I figured why piss off two govt. agencies at the same time? I followed Brownyard to 6925 when the data went 24/7 after 9/11.

It's a solid tell that the military is up to something when the data stream there becomes a regular fixture on the bands.

The fence theory might not be that far off. I saw a pic of their antenna site several years ago. A number of Rhombics surrounded by wire fencing to keep nimrods from frying themselves.
