General Radio Discussion / Re: WE CALLED A SECRET MI6 PHONE NUMBER
« on: September 07, 2013, 1032 UTC »
I remember those things. It was where we first tested the "Mr. Fansome, check your tire pressure.".

After it became known his name was Al, we began to refine the messages. These days we can get him to check his tire pressure merely by handing his control bunny a toy truck.

Equipment / Re: Receiver Question

Sounds good. Just because a radio is older, like the Kenwood, it doesn't mean it's a bad receiver. My favorite receiver for general listening is a Drake R-4B that is probably close to 50 years old.

My advice on wife handling, hide 'em in your garage/spare closet and bring them in piece by piece over a month or so. Women aren't the only ones who can play the "This old thing? Why I've had it for years." game.

Stay out of the hills until those fires die down.

You're getting testy in your old age, Al.

I'm a Drake man, but I've heard nothing but good things about the R-75 since it hit the market about a decade ago. At 400 bucks that's a no-brainer, IMHO.

Is it going to be a "Knobs Only" site?

Capt. Ganja once told me he used a portable receiver and some sort of mag mount antenna when he delivered pizzas to listen to pirates, Bill. He said it did a pretty good job.

Is that what he's been telling people? Full of it as usual.

Here are the facts. Due to the 4000 mile limit the Judge stuck on the restraining order Ms. Carlisle had issued against Al, there aren't many regions north of the equator for him to reside.

It's his own fault. He lost access to Eurasia when his then girlfriend, Svetlana, the twin sister of Vladimir Putin, found out about his Britney Spears obsession and dumped him.

6070
Looks like a job opening for you, Al. And it's a perfect base for your hunt for Amelia Earhart.

May Al Fansome have mercy on your soul.

6072
I can tell there's a carrier there, but the audio isn't making it.

They're usually solid on 9665 most evenings here. I was listening to them last week and thinking it was nice that at least one shortwave giant was still out there. Oh well.

Even with Putin in power, other than the news, the programming has been interesting since the fall of the Soviet state.

Voice of Bacon, Radio Snausages International..........  I'm glad to see the Porcine tradition is proudly being carried on by this new group of ops.

Go forth and spread the word.

Thunderstorms over and around me for this one. Even so, they were a solid s6 on a Eton G5 w/ just the whip.

Well programed and produced show.
