The Sonics were actually a pretty good band that was poorly produced early in their career. Lenny Kaye had their song "Psycho" on one of his early "Nuggets" collection. It was recorded with a unidirectional mic suspended from the studio ceiling about 8 ft. above the band and sounded like it. The first flowering of the "Seattle Sound", circa 1965, dontcha know? "Psycho" got a lot of airplay in the Pacific Northwest.

Equipment / Re: Made in China Wellbrook 1530 Loop Antenna?
« on: February 20, 2023, 1524 UTC »
One of the best antenna purchases I ever made was a small Tecsun 200 MW loop. It works both proximately and with a short piece of coax with plugs to fit your portable's and the antennas jack. Replace the flimsy included coax with some RG-73 or even some patch cord with mini stereo adapters and you're ready to roll. The thing has a tuning knob and covers the entire US MW band. I paid 20 bucks for it new. Not all Chinese radio and antenna products are junk, you've got to vet them carefully to get your money's worth.

Who's going to be the sacrificial penguin for the Chinese Wellbrook? Who knows, you might get a steerable balloon to help hang it?

2238 Stand up comedy. Into some awesome Chicken Pickin Guitar tune. Good reception. S9

2243 "Big 10 inch Record".
2245 Off

I wonder if it was the original of "Big 10 Inch Record" by Bull Moose Jackson or the later Aerosmith cover? Bull Moose was discovered by Ike Turner when he was a talent scout for Sam Phillips, cruising around the South in his Rocket 88.

0007 NO RFW  but loud Mars on 6897.5 USB
I just heard the net  op for mars comment about you being so close to him. Good thing you moved.
0017 sounds like a skit

Getting noticed by those guys isn't a good thing. They used to be just above 6975, too. Stations that have been broadcasting up there might want to keep an ear open before they go on.

I recognize that woman in the bottom SSTV pic. She's the siren that turned that fella into a toad down in Mississippi. He should've never sought that treasure. I wonder if he's still a toad? They live a long time.

Just missed it due to answering fan mail in my PM box.

S9+20 with the K3FEF KiwiSDR. Just waiting for some pirate to try to talk to them!

2350 UTC-Talking about fishing
2356 UTC-OFF

They used to try to talk to them but the Richards would never answer back. I just ran over them.

Well that's a given, I'm his half brother, twice removed.

If only that chunk of the sun hadn't broke off and settled on the North Pole conditions would be perfect.

625
"Time" Pink Floyd. I witnessed a very stoned friend riding shotgun fling the cassette out the car window when the alarm clocks went off. Ahh, the mid-70's!

626
Likely The Offspring's "Pretty Fly For A White Guy". Everybody and his brother played that one. A damned funny song and funnier video.

627
Really sounding good now. I went west to get away from that hiss, I'm shocked at how good you're propagating out west this low on the band. When the tx is over go poke fun at the hams in the AM window.

Thanks for "The Passenger" Siouxsie has a helluva voice and wasn't too hard on the eyes in her time. Much easier to look at than Iggy.

628
Nice S-9  signal in Crooked River, OR. The hiss from the ute or whatever it was below you on the Kiwi's back east isn't apparent out here. If I hadn't seen the log and recognized your voice I wouldn't have been able to id you back East.

You don't have Siouxie and The Banshees cover of "The Passenger" do you?

You guy's should check out Ancestry.com. I suspect all of you have a Fansome in your family tree. This was the big day of You Know Who's year after Radio St. Helena called it quits. Read "Holy Blood, Holy Knobs" to find out more, a FANCO publication.
