Sputnik "beeped" in the MW band. It was the USSR's way of saying, "Up yours, America!" every time it went over.
Sputnik "beeped" on 20 & 40 MHz;
The only "beeping" on MW was as to why Ike was out playing golf while the Russians were preparing a satellite.

Ike was cool like that. He'd won the war in Europe, he wasn't sweating a metal cantaloupe with whiskers circling overhead.

My daughter is currently learning to read and speak Korean. The bank she works for has interests there and they think she has a future with them. I got her hooked on SW at an early age. Who says listening to words in the air from far off places is a waste of time?

Yep, the Great Balloon went down off Surfside Beach,SC. Had it gone down off of Myrtle Beach, the State of Ohio would have order all flags on public buildings to be flown at half-mast. Myrtle Beach is where all Buckeye's hope to go when they die.

There used to be an airbase in Myrtle Beach, but I think Horry County took it over after the Cold War to build the Myrtle Beach Airport? The jets that took it down were likely from Seymour Johnson AFB near Goldsboro, N.C. or the Cherry Point Marine Air Corps base between New Bern and Morehead City, NC. Cherry Point is near Camp Lejeune. There are miles long walled off runways north Cape Carteret that the Marines use. But don't try to scale that wall to take a peek, it can land you in some trouble.

I used to live in Georgetown, S.C. I saw pics today from the rebuilt pier in Surfside Beach, just up US 17 from Georgetown, where the Great Balloon went down offshore. Lots of shrimpers down there. I figure they've already made off with the material from the balloon to make extra nets?

They didn't have to shoot it down over the Atlantic. They could have shot it down over land there, nothing but swamps, golf courses, and shut down for the winter tourist traps below.

He needs to play Gid Tanner And The Skillet Lickers. It would quadruple his audience. People will stay up all night to listen to the adventures of Gid and his buddies. They were the biggest act on radio in the 1920's, just a few short years ago.

Gid retired at the height of his fame and bought an actual hog farm, not an imaginary one like Stumpy's.

Careful broadcasting in the middle of 60 meters. Crazy preachers, the stations that relay them, and their listeners lurk just below the surface on these frequencies.

You're sounding good tonight. An easy S-9 on Smolinski's Farm. I had you decently on both a Texas and California SDR while chasing those
Mexicans around.

BTW, who's the English guy? You're not hanging out with Stretchy, are you?

They're still there but very weak, popping up out of the noise now and then.

Mariachi music on a NorCal SDR. It's got me craving Enchiladas Suizas. More Mariachi music after a Radio Independente, Radio Libre id. Into "Viva Mexico".

The more I listen to this, the more it sounds like a legit station. Big S-10 plus signal and clean pro-sounding audio. A big production version of "El Rancho Grande" and into a stylized corrida sang by a tenor. Rock number and back to the mariachi's.

BTW it's one woman and two men doing the announcing.

701
"Unisex Stereo" ad "Where the phonograph needle is free". We need to get down there now!

Signal is starting to fade but it sounds like the old punk classic "Everyone's Got Nice Stuff But Me."

702
"Roadhouse Blues" Admiral Morrison's Kid and His Pal's. SSTV.

703
He's next to the carrier of Indy Radio on 6931, Poacher. It was getting out earlier this evening.

704
Synch AM on the USB side has got full audio but has a little squeal to it.

705
6930 usb SSTV @ 0:57and ID. It's Outhouse talking like a pirate. Into "Yo,ho,ho,ho And a Bottle of Rum", the pimp and players theme song.
