Huh? / Happy Groundhog Day!
« on: February 02, 2023, 0546 UTC »
The most high Holiday of the year. You can enjoy them on your plate, or keep them as pets, they're a most versatile beast. Careful of their marmot cousins west of the Rockies and in Eurasia, they carry Yersinia Pestis, or the Bubonic Plague, a nasty contagion much worse than Covid-19.

A happy Birthday to my boyhood friend, Groundhog Brown. A swell guy of Fansomian qualities. And remember, Al is watching you, so please shower in your clothes.

FANCO thanks you.

FEMA nets operate in that range. You don't want to tick them off by playing in their sandbox.

Fearless Fred used to go out of band like this, but the Greatest would never lower himself to SSB.

"Uncle Ernie" LMAO!

Sorry I missed this one, it sounds like it was very educational.

Radio Mosiach is now on FM? Another victim of the Hudson County Franken-TIS! How will DX'er's know if Rabbi Schneerson has finally risen
from the dead?

I think you are looking for a Hammarlund SP-600, not a Hallicrafters.

Hallicrafters made their own version of the SP600, called the R-274 or SX-73.  While it was supposed to be functionally the same, it looked much different.  They are somewhat rare and I have only seen a handful over 50 years in the hobby.

I saw one of those R-274's at a hamfest at least 20-25 years ago. The guy selling it wasn't at the table, but his partner ID'ed it for me. It was selling for 150 bucks and looked pristine. I thought about buying it, but didn't want to hump it to the outer solar system where my car was parked.

No "Battle of Epping Forest"? Genesis was a shell of itself after Peter Gabriel left the band and they quit using the Mellotron.

Zeeky/Stumpy relays this one. I guess he changed his mind about going away?

Something like this was on 6930 two nights ago. Visible carrier, wide sidebands, and little to no audio. I figured someone forgot to switch their transmitter off, or a military agency was using it as a marker frequency?

Equipment / Re: Using ATU with SDR or Portable Radios?
« on: January 31, 2023, 1627 UTC »
Most portable antenna sockets are 50 ohms just like their big brothers except they use RG-73 mini coax with mono headphone plug to fit into the portable's jack. Go to a reputable ham radio site, not some offshore crap site, and they'll be able to fix you up with a chunk of RG-73 coax with the right adapters on both ends. It shouldn't cost much.

Antenna tuners will work well with portables. SDR's, I'm not sure about, nor the XHDATA D-808. Check with the seller.

They must be testing for that prime pirating day of the year, Groundhog Day.

747
Just missed it.

"Left Wing, Right Wing, The Same Nut." LOL. They both believe in variations of the same things, with a wildly different take on them, don't they? Ted Kennedy was thought to be a Commie by some folks when I was a young man, while others thought he was a Fascist. I thought he was a well to do drunk?

I knew I should've went to the Kiwi with the really big loop in W. PA!

Everybody and his brother have covered "Matchbox Blues". Ike could've claimed he wrote for Robert Johnson when Ike was in his crib and no one would have called him on it because he was one mean man.
