9775   SRI LANKA. FEBA - Trincomalee. Very good signal in the (scheduled) Kannada language to SAs at 1410. Changes to English (on Mondays) at 1415 with ID and preaching. Feb 13.

4760   INDIA. AIR - Txer site unknown. A weak signal in Hindi at 1342. I'm not sure if this is from Leh or Port Blair. Only one signal heard, and Port Blair was off for a few days during January but perhaps they are back on air now. It can be difficult to identify which one you are listening to, especially when the signal strengths are similar (i.e. not very strong!). Feb 13.

4810   INDIA. AIR - Bhopal. Hindi studio anncts and canned anncts at 1345, fair signal Feb 13.

4835   INDIA. AIR - Gangtok. Weak signal at 1327 and difficult to identify the language in the noise (Hindi? Nepali?….). Feb 13.

5009.99   INDIA. AIR Thiruvananthapuram - Chennai. Phone-in talkback programming at 1324, very good signal, Feb 13.

5040   INDIA. AIR - Jeypore. Hindi commentary at 1317, canned anncts at 1320. Very good signal on Feb 13.

I noted several other freqs as well but didn't spend much time listening for IDs as I was also tuning around for other things on my target list.

Hi Folks,

On Tuesday morning, I listened to Radio Australia for the very last time. 15240 kHz and 15415 kHz were plagued with local noise and not especially strong signals here. So 17840 kHz was the best option for my final moments with this grand old shortwave broadcaster. The sign off came at 0100 UTC after the playing of the old "Waltzing Matilda" interval signal. Mount Evelyn is about 200 km south of the Shepparton transmitter site – not far enough for proper F layer reflection and off the side of the beam, so the signal was a bit scratchy. But I was there for the end and that’s the important thing!

6155   FRANCE. R. Algerienne - Issoudun. Today's transmission began EXACTLY at 2100, burstings straight into Qur'an recitations and flattening the CNR 2 station that had signed on just 5 minutes earlier (2055). Female announcer with ID and anncts at 2104. Then moved into French news at 2105. Changed back to Arabic at 2114 followed by more Qur'an prayers. One of the strongest signals at this time as this band begins to close down for the remainder of this summer morning, Jan 17.

6030    ETHIOPIA. R. Oromiya - Addis Ababa. Groovy Horn-of-Africa dance music in the Oromo service at 1953 to s/off 1957. Very good signal, Jan 17.

17780   SRI LANKA. AWR - Trincomalee. Arabic service to ME at 0550 with preaching and then a Kenny G song! Poor signal although Kenny came through loud and clear - that soprano sax can penetrate any noise that the shortwave bands throw at it!! Noted till s/off 0559, Jan 13.

17845   UAE. R. Ergo - Dhabayya. Somali service to EAf at 1205 with talk programming. Weak signal on Jan 13. As the sunspot count draws closer to its minimum for this cycle, the 19, 16 and 13 metre bands are becoming increasingly harder to propagate signals around the world, even in our local summer evenings.

9545   TAIWAN. R. Taiwan Int'l - Tamsui. Mandarin to EAs at 1115, good signal but with CNR 1 jamming, and // 5900 also heard. NF on Jan 13.

4055   GUATEMALA. R. Verdad - Chiquimula. Hymns at 1110, banjo music on "I've Been Working on the Railroad" at 1119. Preaching in Spanish at 1124. Weak-ish signal but quite good considering it's summer here and many evening thunderstorms are around the top half of Australia, Jan 13. It never ceases to amaze me how often this station's very low power still seems to make it to the Australian continent! Must be some type of "secret sauce" or sacred propagation involved!

3344.86   INDONESIA. RRI - Ternate. A fair level of carrier present at 1135 but woefully weak audio with occasional wisps of Indonesian pop music and anncts. Pity! Jan 13.

6090 ETHIOPIA. Amhara State Radio - Addis Ababa. A discussion program (or perhaps a radio play?…bit hard to tell!) at 2002 in the Amharic language. Groovy Afro music at 2008. One of the more reliable Ethiopian signals here with very good strength on Jan 12.
